I would never generalize anyone like that...in no way am I saying that if youre 30-40 years old, youre the reason for the effed up youth of america. Just find the irony comical.

I'm only 22 and you can damn well bet my kids will never see a 'time out'. Now they might get cell phones when they're young, but they'll be the pay as you go phones. If they want to use their allowance...that they have to earn...for a cell phone, more power to 'em.

Ha! Live and Learn young padawan(sp?). I had methodologies for how I'd raise (or not micro-raise) my children as well (note they're 3 and 5 year old male Lucifer spawn right now). Once your doing it, things change. We'll see if they never get put on time out. Somehow I don't think you'll take a belt or hanger to them.

Its not all the parents fault, although I agree it is certainly a factor. Its also new laws, new awareness, more concern for the child's well being, more laws against parents for not being responsible enough, more people suing each other, etc, etc. Lets not forget peer pressure that influences behavior.
    ;)

Never stopped me from the beating the **** out of my girlfriends cute little puppy for messing up. Now I'm not saying I'm not going to laugh in the other room because of his big puppy dog eyes, but like I said, I learned with a belt, so will my kids. To me, 'time out' is a big reason why kids are so damned spoiled these days.

The belts, hangars, etc never did a thing to teach me any lessons. Only to fear. It also made me more likely to never admit to any wrong doing for fear of being beaten. Me personally, I want my kids to be able to trust me and love me, not just fear me and behave. How is beating your kids ever going to teach them how to deal with sitautions without violence.
Assuming your serious-that mindset is naive and destructive, and will only lead the your kids then beating thier kids and so on.
My advice to you-don't have any kids. Or pets for that matter.
How do you keep your girlfreind in line?

Did any of you older guys get "the strap" in school? I remember in elementary school getting it, although I don't remember why. The teacher would send you to the principals office, and the punishment would be ten lashes per hand with a leather strap....stung like hell!

I'm 100% serious. I guess my parents shouldn't have had kids either, as my brother and I were raised on a belt. We came out a lot better than some of the kids that weren't.

I'm not talking about beating them black and blue, I'm talking about spanking them when they mess up.

A parent's job is to be a parent first, not to be their friend and hope they don't think bad of me at the end of the day.

I didnt get the strap, but I got the air-hole drilled paddle from one of my coaches. Luckily it wasnt the baseball coach!

I got the belt a few times myself when I was younger. I think it helped me to grow up a bit better though personally. It's called discipline...something that is lacking anymore. These days if you take a belt to your kid they call DCFS on you and you get your kids taken away.

Anymore parents just get their kids put on ADD medicine unnecessarily to make them calm down and stay out of trouble...which doesn't seem quite right to me.

    Here's a question...

Isn't it the people in their 30s and 40s that are doing all this crap to their kids now?

Kids can't afford cell phones, xbox's and ps3s...its the parents that are buying it for them. So whos really at fault here...the kids? Or the parents of said kids.

"Our actions were our own. Consequences were expected. The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke a law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law."
The same generation that this article about is the reason for this^^

    -Cody

    Dude:

    Not my children.

I agree with you though, they are not earning the money for those expensive toys. When they do get old enough they'll have a taste for expensive toys and borrow the money to buy them now instead of saving up for them, just like the vast majority of the current parents you are speaking of.
