People over 30 should be dead.
Here's why.
According to today's regulators and bureaucrats, those of us who were kids in the 40's, 50's, 60's, or even maybe the early 70's probably shouldn't have survived.
Our baby cribs were covered with bright colored lead-based paint.
We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets, ... and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets. (Not to mention the! risks we took hitchhiking.)
As children, we would ride in cars with no seatbelts or air bags. Riding in the back of a pickup truck on a warm day was always a special treat.
We drank water from the garden hose and not from a bottle.
Horrors!
We ate cupcakes, bread and butter, and drank soda pop with sugar in it, but we were never overweight because we were always outside playing.
We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle, and no one actually died from this.
We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then rode down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem.
We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the street lights came on. No one was able to reach us! All day! NO CELL PHONES!!!!!
Unthinkable!
We did not have Playstations, Nintendo 64, X-Boxes, no video games at all, no 99 channels on cable, video tape movies, surround sound, personal cell phones, personal computers, or Internet chat rooms. We had friends! We went outside and found them.
We played dodge ball, and sometimes, the ball would really hurt.
We fell out of trees, got cut and broke bones and teeth, and there were no lawsuits from these accidents.
They were accidents.
No one was to blame but us.
Remember accidents?
We had fights and punched each other and got black and blue and learned to get over it.
We made up games with sticks and tennis balls and ate worms, and although we were told it would happen, we did not put out very many eyes, nor did the worms live inside us forever.
We rode bikes or walked to a friend's home and knocked on the door, or rang the bell or just walked in and talked to them.
Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment!
Some students weren't as smart as others, so they failed a grade and were held back to repeat the same grade.
Horrors!
Tests were not adjusted for any reason.
Our actions were our own. Consequences were expected. The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke a law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law.
Imagine that!
This generation has produced some of the best risk-takers and problem solvers and inventors, ever.
The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas.
We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned how to deal with it all.
And if you're one of them, congratulations!
Please pass this on to others who have had the luck to grow up as kids, before lawyers and government regulated our lives, for our own good !!!!! People under 30 are WIMPS!
Honestly, this is quite old already and it should be people over 35 or 40 but I think the 30 number is still OK for another year or two.
But people under 30 still suck no matter what!

Right on!...wait...I'm under 30...crap.
We still had dodgeball when i was in school though! But that got banned about 3 years after we played.
But I do find this funny:
"Our actions were our own. Consequences were expected. The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke a law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law."
If someone can figure out why I'll give them a cookie!

I remember jungle gyms and slides and swingsets and merry go-rounds, they were all made of steel and wood.
We'd get splinters, or burn ourselves on the METAL slides, when it was hot outside. I broke my wrist by jumping off the swingsets when it was parallel with the ground. I don't recall ANY lawsuits though?
Parents nowadays are PUSSIES!!!I refuse to argue with idiots, because people can't tell the DIFFERENCE! -
That's a good read there. I'm only 22 myself...but I can agree with most of those things. When I was a kid I actually went and played outside, I've fallen out of a few trees, I've hurt myself at the playground, I rode my bike every single day. No one was gonna tell me I couldn't ride my bike. I would have rather ridden my bike than gotten a ride most of the time.
Kids these days are different...granted I'm still a kid in most peoples eyes, but I didn't grow up in the "myspace generation". Granted I do have a myspace...but it's not like a form of crack to me, like it is to a lot of the kids these days. Kids anymore don't wanna go out and ride their bike, or go skateboarding. Why would they need to? They have a video game they can ride a bike in. Who wants to climb a tree? They're dirty, and they might get hurt.
When I was a kid that's what was fun about it. You couldn't keep me inside...Kids never even talk to each other in person anymore. Their social lives exist over myspace, cell phones, and things like Xbox live. All of these things are great, but they don't replace interacting with real people in real situations.
Being a kid these days isn't the same as it used to be...most kids don't even have to really do any chores anymore, and they just get an allowance anyway. Then they complain about having to take a bag of garbage out. When I was a kid I remember having to wash both the cars, mow the lawn, do the dishes, clean the garage...and all for like 5-10 bucks. I was damn happy to get it too.The nirvana inducer-

Wow, where the heck did this lead us?
You have a vary, shall I say, limited experience to draw upon when you make these observations.
Are you under the impression that this all changed in the last 5 or 10 years?
You are showing a real naivety in this and at least one other thread... -

Yep. When I was in elementary school in FLA the principal had "The Board of Education" It was an oak board that was very intimidating to the students. If your parents signed the papers for it to be used(most parents did:eek:) rest assured you behaved in that school;)Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. No...I'm not saying that this all changed in the last 5-10 years. I'm just going upon my personal experiences to contribute what I can. I'm just saying that even I have noticed how much people are changing as the world, and technology changes.

Ah yes, those were the days---hehe I still have a BB in my hand to prove it. And a few scars as well.
One of my favorite games was Suicide-anybody remember that game? The rules seems to vary from place to place but the basics were the same--Bunch of guys would throw a tennis ball or something at a wall. If you catch the ball before it hit the ground, the person that threw it had to run as fast as he could to touch the wall while the catcher threw the ball at the them as hard as they could. Once the thrower touched the wall he was safe. If you tried to catch the ball and touched it, but failed to complete the catch, that person had to run and anybody could pick up the ball. I also remember something about having to stand facing the wall with arms up on the wall and legs back a bit while somebody could take a free shot or two at you.
Man the welts realized with that game. Oh and the countless broken windows too.
All this while waiting for the school bus-Oh and ya know what? I grew up in an apt complex with several bus stops. We had like 4 buses come through for each grade-Lots of kids. And ya know what-I honestly can't remember there being any parental supervision there AT ALL.
We used to swim in the nasty creek. eewww! Who knows what kinda unregulated crap could have been in there.
Yep I remember the drinking out of the hose bit. I have to keep telling my kids not to. Although I'm considering bying some RV water hose which is safe for drinking from just so my boys can have the pleasure-oh the water seems so good back then esp on those hot days.
My brother and friends and I would go on long hikes in the neighboring woods-No cell phones. Maybe a dime or two to check in from time to time at a payphone. Anything could have happened in all that time. And as crazy as that was, one of my neighbors was kidnapped for days, and by my upstairs neighbor--
Nowadays-I'm even thinking of putting GPS trackers on my kids when they start wandering-They definately going to have some kind of communications on them though (with limits).
Oh and so many things that we did, that can't be done today because of heightened security--but I am simply amazed at how many YouTube vids there are today of kids making Dry Ice bombs. So really some of the stupid stuff still happens.
Oh and I remember riding in the back/trunk of the Chevette--looking out the back and waving to the people behind. Man today when I see a kid not strapped in-I turn my nose up at those parents!! Simply irresponsible-but back then, Id've been mad to have to have been strapped in. Luckily my boys don't even let me move the car without making sure they are strapped in.
I should really be in bed now-I didn't get my afternoon nap today____________________

I think its true no matter how old you are-just different circumstances. In ten years, the kids of today will be talking about how the kids of tomorrow are always whizzing by on their Segue's not paying attention because they're playing Xbox4K on thier zero radiation virtual headsets, laughing at the kids of today about how they actually used to put the brain damaging cell phones right on there heads.;)
You can bet your bottom dollar though that my kids will earn thier allowance/privledges-this wil include keeping the pool clean and the lawn looking good. And perhaps even snowblowing the neighbors driveways for fun.

For my genration, I have to disagree with the no videogames thing-I had Atari 2600 and Pong. Talk about some mind numbing wasted time. Todays games are much more engaging. But I do remember the ritual of going to friends houses to play thier Coleco vision, or going to the OddLot to see what Atari 2600 games might be on sale.____________________

I still drink out of the hose on a hot summer day if I am washing my car and do not have a beer in my hand. 46 and going strong, a little water from the garden hose has not killed me yet.

I never heard of that console, but it only came out about 9 months before the Atari VCS/2600. Besides Pong came out long before the RCA Studio and it was also made by Atari.____________________

I think you can still drink out of a hose today, you just have to have run water through it for a bit first. I think the issue is with chemicals slowly leaching into the water in the hose when it sits for awhile. The reminder to me about something leaching into the water in a hose, is when you first start the ater flowing after its been sitting awhile, the water has that nice vinyl smell to it-Where do you think that smell comes from. Love the smell but it can't be good.
Who knows, its probably like fish and mercury. All fish has it, some more than others. Hence the guidline to limit fish intake, especially if you're prego. Its likely a slow build-up of chemicals that will cause, trigger or exacerbate problems down the road.____________________

Evolutionarily, there is no selective advantage for the species (i.e., us!) for individuals to live much past childbearing age. So... even if we survive past 30; there's really no reason for us to live past 50 or so! :-)
-
I never knew it was bad to drink out of a hose. in fact, I always thought hose water tasted good...lol.
During football in jr high, that's how we got water. had a pipe with a hose fitting on one end, a cap on the other end, and a buch of holes drilled in for the water to come out. then some jack **** would cover up the hole with his finger and it would squirt everyone else in the face...ok...I was usually that jack ****.

I remember, playing RedA$$ sounds like the above mentioned suicide game. We played marbles, made tree forts. My brother and I would play with dinky cars in our back yard and create little cities and such in the dirt. We drank from our hose and not just ours, neighbours as well. We too rode our bikes all day long came or went to a friends when hungry. Stuck our tongues on metal during winter, caught snakes brought them home. We did have atari, comodore 64 and turbografix 16. But we'd rather be outside on a pogo ball.

WAAAAAAAA! I save the bacon grease to cook the eggs in the next day too. Nothing like eggs cooked in bacon fat. My kids like when I get up and cook breakfast for them, cause their mom uses olive oil or some other healthy **** to cook the eggs. Bleeech!"Don't forget to change your politician. They are like diapers they need to be changed regularly, and for the same reason." -
Here's a question...
Isn't it the people in their 30s and 40s that are doing all this crap to their kids now?
Kids can't afford cell phones, xbox's and ps3s...its the parents that are buying it for them. So whos really at fault here...the kids? Or the parents of said kids.
"Our actions were our own. Consequences were expected. The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke a law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law."
The same generation that this article about is the reason for this^^
