THX is another way to help you get the most out of your system. They are very good at it and started the entire home theater thing. So if you like products that are THX, it's just a bonus. I prefer THX myself.

This was something I tossed around quite a bit before I bought my receiver. I ended up getting an Onkyo TX-SR606, which isn't THX certified, but to step up to an Onkyo that was, it would have cost me about 300-400 more.

I'd say that it is definitely worth it, but you've gotta weigh out whether or not it's worth that much extra money to you. When I upgrade my receiver in the future though, it will definitely have THX Ultra2 certification.

I just went from an older Pioneer Elite receiver with THX 2 certification to a non THX Yamaha and don't miss the THX at all. Still has plenty of surround choices and sounds fantastic. No regrets without it.

From what I understand about THX certification; is that the reciever or speakers, or whatever, meets a certain minimum perforance level (depending on the cert level). This does not mean that something that is not THX certified doesn't also meet or exceed that same level, but could simply mean that they chose not to have the device evaluated (and likely have to pay for it). I think of it as a way to allow the comsumer an easy way to compare.

Another thing to keep in mind that if you're looking at an AVR that garnered a portion of its certification from the internal amplifier capabilities--the cert will mean less if you are bypassing the amps and using an external amp anyway.

You also want to note that there is a THX surround mode in some AVRs. This is not part of a certifcation, but another surround decoding method.

I got my first THX Select 2 plus receiver just over a month ago and love it.
IMO, the "THX Cinema" processing alone is worth it if you dig home theater. With the THX Cinema processing engaged, the sound becomes much fuller, less "in your face" and the sound field is much more pleasing. The new THX Loudness Plus feature is also amazing. I am hooked. It is now a requirement for me for future upgrades.

I have no experience with THX certified speakers so I can't comment there.

    Hi guys:
I had 3 weeks struggling between Onkyo 706 $599, or Denon 2309, $749. Both receivers 100W/ch, MultiEQ, Dynamic Volume, etc. Only that Onkyo has 5 band EQ, and Denon has 9 band EQ. Wasnt sure which one to pick, because Onkyo has THA Select2Plus, but Denon doesnt. The only thing about Denon was "only for quality from what I read, the sound is more "Warm" (Thats other peoples opinion, not mine. I've never heared both) I really wish to test both, but I cant.

So I have RTiA7, and after all I decided with Onkyo just because of the THA thing. I hope I did a right thing. I bought receiver from Crutchfield, just waiting for it. I should get it next week. Any feedbacks? Did I take the right Receiver? Doesnt mind me to pay $150 extra for Denon if I have to, or keep with Onkyo 706. Onkyo 806 was not on my list becuase it doesnt fit in my HT Desk, and I dont care about Yamahas or Pioneers Receivers. Feedback Please

I went to THX site, and read all about THX Certified (Ultra2Plus and Select2Plus) convinced me to take a receiver with THX. Between Ultra2Plus and Select2Plus is not much if your room its not TOO BIG. So if your room is like 25'x25' you can go with Select2Plus
    Panasonic 65" Plasma
    Pioneer SC81
    PS4 BluRay / Memorex BD-Player
