This is not a flame; just a statement of fact.

I went to wikipedia.com a moment ago and looked up "knuclkehead"

It first shows this to be a Harley Davidson, but halfway down the page I clicked the link marked "Dictionary definition of knucklehead"

    . . . the results . . . . "An idiot; a stupid or inept person" :)

ok...lets start over...i apologize for what i said....what i meant was at the beginning of the thread is that was my opinion on the speaker wire issue, i havent claimed to be an expert, just my opinion which is what 99% of these forums contain. I apologize for all who I offended and I just want to move on from this. Hopefully we can all get past this and just move on. Thanks

So, I'm not sure at all as to which speaker wire to buy. I had my mouse on the purchase button on the next tab over for 10 guage blue jean wire for RTi series speakers--OK or overkill?

10 awg is on the thick side but not unheard of. Actually I think some of the higher end cables I have are probably 10awg or even 8.

Its been said to me that btwn 12 and 14 should be good for the fronts. And if you wanted to biwire, you could put 12 on the lows and 14 on the highs.

Its been said that too thick a cable can attenuate the highs a bit. May or may not be noticeable to some but a possiblity nonetheless. Some will say that on the the fronts, the cables are too short to experience any resistance/impedance/capacitance issues, but some have noticed a difference.

The rear channels are not as critical, but 14-12awg (probably leaning towards the 12), should be fine for most runs around 50'.

At least that is what I am pulling from the dusty corners of my tired brain-so don't trust me.

EDIT: Looks like Keiko and Ben got thier post in before I did-I'm slow with my thoughts. Anyway didn't mean to soudn like a broken record.

Welcome aboard. Your apology takes courage, and I will say my wiki post was meant in jest but in bad taste. Wires have been beaten to a pulp recently and tempers flare. Get to know F1, he has some amazing know how, and understand with 16K+ posts you should probably have a well thought out idea before you engage.

How did I ever miss this thread?

The F-1 guy is someone that you do not want to "piss off",, kinda gets like a power mad totalaterionalistic dictator that makes Idi Amin look like a choirboy if you do.

The Ben guy, is a "mad scientiest" with a wild hairdoo,, imagine Kozmo Kramer,in a labcoat with vandeergraf generator hair,, went to his lab once,, never been so scared,, the guy's got some kind of "silver fetish".;)

The fact that you are still posting Mr Knucklehead, is indeed good news,, as there may still be time. If you or someone you know, can bake, now would be a good time to send each of them a pie.

    Welcome to Club Polk.:D

I just received my delivery of my RTi A1's. I still haven't purchased speaker wire yet. I am debating if I should bi-wire them or not. The A1's are going to be my main fronts. Anyway I was looking at blue jean cable and I have heard they have quality cables at a decent price. What are your thoughts on the Canare 4S11 Cable? It's a 14-gauge speaker cable with 4 conductors specifically for bi-wiring. I was thinking having it terminated as bananas to bi-spades. If I don't decide to bi-wire, I was thinking of going with the Belden 5000 series 12-gauge cable.

So I guess my questions can split up:

A.) Would it be recommended to bi-wire my RTi A1's? If so, would the wire I mentioned be sufficient?

B.) If bi-wiring is not recommended, would the Bluejeans Belden 5000 series be a good speaker wire?

Please note that my speakers are being run by the Denon AVR789.

I think it would be kind of pointless to biwire. If you want the 4s11, then get it, but why pay for another pair of connectors that basically do nothing? Just terminate both ends normally.

    Either is decent quality.

For a little more (actually, it's not more if you were to get bananas to bi-spades) somebody's selling some MIT cables in the FS section. Just something to consider.

I would agree about buy-wire....waste of cable and yes pun intended! :)
I would however suggest you replace any jumpers with some left over cable you will buy. I don't use Belden so I can't comment on that point. All in all if you choose to bi-wire, and you think it is an improvement then by all means, keep it that way.

I'm using AQ and like your first choice can be used to bi-wire, I chose not to go that route and to replace the jumpers with custom ones. So I just use both negs to on post and both pos to the other and not seperate.

Good luck with you cable shopping.

Those MIT cables are really out of my price range at the current moment.

Are the jumpers the brass metal plate in the back of my speakers that are connected to the quad binding posts? What would be the advantage of replacing it? What would I replace this with? Where would I be able to buy it?

Just use a short piece of speaker wire instead of the plate. Tie red to red, and black to black.
