B. Joel-Innocent Man SACD Issue

I appear to have gotten a crappy, low quality SACD.

Picked this up off eBay for $15. On all but 2 or 3 tracks, the vocals come strictly through the surrounds as an extremely faint echo. The rest of the music comes through loud and clear on the other speakers.

While the mix seems a little weird on the other 2 or 3 tracks, they sound okay.
No such issues with my other SACDs and DVD-A.

Anybody ever have any issues like this? They can't all be this bad, but is this normally a well mixed, good sounding SACD?

If this is normal, then I don't know what's the big fuss about SACD.. ;)

I ran into a couple DVD-A in the past, that exhibited similar crappy mixed. Can't say have seen it on my SACD collections. Email the record label and ask the question. I did that one time, and they sent me a replacement) which unfortunately has the same crappy mixed. oh, well.
I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

It's not normal. That much I can tell you.

I haven't heard that CD in quite a long time but I do seem to recall that it wasn't the best of recordings to begin with. If I'm wrong, forgive me but if I'm right there is nothing that can make chicken soup out of chicken ****.

The big fuss about SACD was as a high-resolution two-channel digital format, addressing some of the profound limitations of the original "redbook" CD (e.g., low resolution; the 'brick wall' at 20 kHz). Even Sony, in so many words, has said of SACD "now it's almost as good as analog on vinyl". :-)

My copy sounds good. Check your settings on your sacd player.

I figure I just got a bunk copy. No issues with my others.
I can always do some skeet shooting with it.
    Thanks guys.

Did you by chance purchase this at Wal-Mart or Sam's Club?

Got it off eBay and meant to make an issue out of it, the got side tracked and never dealt with it.

BTW....it's actually "The Stranger" not "Innocent Man". Put it in again last night...half the songs are basically instrumentals...the others sound good.

Strictly in 2 Channel so I can't comment on the surround aspect. I have it playing now, and have to say it sounds like it should. (Denon DVD 3910 is the player)

I do have a Elton John SACD that won't load and play, no matter how much swearing and threatening I do.
