Well there you go its a Google Chrome issue. Aside from checking the Google forums on the browser-Try reinstalling it. Maybe It and SP1 don't/didn;t play well.

I haven't tried Chrome yet-so I'm not aware of any issues.

There is no PDF reader for Chrome that I know of. It could also be the cause of your download issue. Try IE and see if that fixes everything.

Dispite what all of the other fanboys think/say, IE is a great browser and Vista is a good OS.

It was opening up PDFs fine before SP1. Whether or not that was the cause of it, I dunno...but it was the only change I knew of that happened to my computer between when it was working and when it stopped.

McAfee is currently scanning all my files so I cant restart and troubleshoot right now...but I didn uninstall Chrome. When McAfee is done, I will reinstall SP1, then Chrome. If I'm still having problems I will go to the Chrome forums.

When my computer was running on XP, Chrome was loading pages much faster than firefox...and I had switched to firefox because it loaded pages faster than IE. I dont consider myself a fanboi, I use what works best for me. If I still encounter problems that I cannot fix, I will DL firefox and see which one loads faster, IE or FF on Vista.

SP1 may have borked the Acrobad plugins. I'd say re-install Acrobat Reader.

But his issue wasn't just with pdfs, it was also zips, and likely any other file download. It was losing the "dot" for the file extension.
I don't think its a plugin or assosiation issue, but a compatability/corruption issue between Chrome and the SP1 install.
Reinstalling Acrobat, may not fix the issue for the pdfs.

Because a Service Pack does some core stuff to the OS, I would try uninstalling and reinstalling Chrome by itself first before trying to reinstall SP1.

I tried it the other way around, SP1 first, then Chrome because before all this was happening, I downloaded Chrome before SP1.

I'm still having the same problem about losing the 'dot'. I was able to DL adobe though, so I can, once again, view PDFs. I don't have the time to troubleshoot anymore for a while, but I will hit up google forums to address the issue and will report back what I find out.

I wouldn't bother with McAfee even if it is free. I have been using AVG free for years with no isuues.

McAfee and Symantec both are like viruses on their own. Damn near impossible to remove and they are resource hogs (IMHO of course). Forget about it if you have a failed uninstall of one of em...
    Eset NOD32 is my preference.
