NAD speakers
I was wondering if anyone knew about these speakers. They are the NAD series 300 speakers. They are 4 ohm speakers. I am the original owner and bought them in the late 1980's from a high end electronics store. I had just graduated college and they sounded good. They are solid wood. Is anyone familar with these speakers I can't seem to find any information on them. Thanks.

I was curious since I like NAD so much and this is what I found so far. A couple of pics and this info. Not sure if the info. is accurate but I saw similar comments on a few forums saying basically the same thing.
ADS was first approached by NAD in the mid 80's to build a couple floorstanders (NAD 20 & 30). ADS did develop the speakers but for whatever reason ADS did not ultimately produce them. NAD went to Braun (whom ADS owned the hifi portion of) and they built them instead. Later, ADS offered the L690 & L990 as tweeners between the L bookshelves & L towers. In the early 90's, ADS built replacement drivers for NAD that although made by ADS will have Braun part numbers on them. -
Those are my speakers. Does Braun still exist. It doesn't sound like there are too many of these around. They are built like a tank. It looks like one big woofer and two tweeters. Interesting with the 4 ohm speakers I have I can use my SDA SRS 2 4ohms in the front, these NAD's in the rear and my LSIC for a center. They are all 4 ohms. Now I just need a amp to power all of them. Thanks for the info.Polk HT system 1: LSIC, LSI25 mains, LSI F/X rears, Lsi F/X rear centers,

You certainly can do that. But I think you are being to concerned about matching up speaker impedance. That is not much/any problem with something to power them correctly. The biggest concern I would have would be timbre match and blending of all the speakers together. You will not know until you try but I would think with so many different driver makes and models chances are low. Not sure about the LSCI and the SDAs at least they're Polks but I have no idea how they will match up. IMHO the front and center really should be matched up when possible. Not as big of a deal with the surrounds.
It might all sound good don't get me wrong. Just thought you might be thinking of this timbre and component matching that is making you think impedance match. -
I was just thinking that those are the speakers I have that are 4 ohms. I am not sure how it will sound. The NAD's being in the rear should be no problem. If I upgrade my tweeters with the RDO's on the SDA SRS 2's it may be a better match with the LSIC. I guess that is the fun of the hobby to see what sounds best together.Polk HT system 1: LSIC, LSI25 mains, LSI F/X rears, Lsi F/X rear centers,

Those almost look like Peerless tweeters, but I doubt that. It's a thee way design bluecomet with a dome tweeter, dome mid, and woofer. The design is very similar to older Infinity stuff and should sound pretty good.

I had never heard of them, and it seems that they are not officially available in North America!

His speakers are from the 80s, they were very good sounding speakers and sold here in the US, like the ADS line, those soft dome tweeters and mids are to die for, IMHO.Dodd - Battery Preamp

What is the ADS line? Thanks for enlightening me as to what I have. Yes they do sound very good. My friend was a manager of a high end electronics store in the 80's and 90's before going under to circuit city and best buy. I remember the high end Polks. I just got out of college and got married and kept looking at all the awesome big speakers at the time like the SDA SRS. With being young and no money to speak of I bought a little pair of Monitor 4's which I still have today. They look brand new and still sound great. My wife actually bought these NAD speakers. The high notes from these tweeters is exceptional. That's why I figured they could hang with a LSIC in a 5.1 surround system. Do you think I should update the SDA SRS 2 tweeters to have a better sonic match. How do the replacement RDO's sound compared to the LSIC tweeters?Polk HT system 1: LSIC, LSI25 mains, LSI F/X rears, Lsi F/X rear centers,

I was lucky enough to find a pair of L-520's in a consignment store. I really like them. A lot. The tweeter is much smoother than the old SL-2000s that I had in my CRS+'s, much like the current RDO's. I had a pair of peerless in a set of Monitor 7's, and I would say they are smoother than those, too. They just have a laid-back, yet, articulate sound. I have my L-520's mated with some vintage Marantz gear and the combination is real ballsy.
Put some good clean power behind those bad boys and enjoy them. If you are going to relegate them to surround sound duty, maybe sell them to me instead..? -
I've owned a handful of ADS. I concur w/ Dave...it's a really laid back speaker with great midrange, decent bass for an AS with a bit of rolled off top end. I wouldn't hesitate to grab another pair for nostalgia. The smaller models get parted out pretty often for the midrange and tweeter drivers. The tweeter is nicer than the Peerless.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.
