Boomy corners.
hello all.
I am having acoustic problems, as you can see in my system showcase (bottom of page) I am in the roof of the building (bedroom/ht room/hi fi room). The room is not squere walled on the roof sides of the building(terrace house). One roof goes almost right down to floor hight . I canot put speakers anywhere near the corners of this wall, this isn’t so bad if my system is set up so the front is along that low wall/roof side (with sky window) it doesn’t so much matrer. But I often set a system up sideways on so that the vertical/terrace joining walls have a system along them (like wharfedale setup is in my showcase-kevlar cones). If I put a speaker anywhere near the corner the bass imediatley booms up, at the minute I have my right speaker about 1.3 meters reom where the roof meets the floor and the bass is still slightley boomy.
What do I do? (on a tight budget)
I cant be botherd to and dont have the time to build a “picture frame” proper diy bass trap . or one that’s built from cut fibreglass and slid into a frame, so;
I was looking at corner foam traps from online stores, some of them are nothing more than cubes of foam or prisms of foam. So I noted that they are usually a high density of around 40kg per meter cubed. I phoned up a local foam supplyer and he said that a 30cm(12inch) by 30cm(12inch) by 50cm (20inch) would cost about £8 (add 15%vat whipee).
The volume of that 30*30*50 bit of foam is 45000cm^3 (£8) so I guess the price is based on number of cuts and volume/size.
So a 60*60*60 cm block that has a volume of 216 000cm^3 would cost around £40+15% ??????
If I were to get two large blocks that would fit snugley into the bottom of the corner walls would I notice much difference?
Or should I get some smaller blocks for only a fraction of the price (£8 vs £40) .
Help.
cheers all

That foam will do nothing for you. DIY cylinder bass traps would be your best bet.
I built 4 of these: http://www.geocities.com/jonrisch/basstrap.htm
Here is a great thread about room treatments: http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?t=47212"He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche -
this looks easy enough

i seem to have verry little understanding of acoustics.
with these pipe insulators , people seem to recomend 1inch. is this just to keep the cost at a minimum? also its not necesery that they have a thin film layer ontop is it?ELECTRONICS
