wtf........When does it stop.(I know it wont)
Dont really care much about 6.1 vs 8.1 but the format changes as it goes (DTS then now it's DTSMA, TrueHD...etc).......that's the one that's killing meh!:mad::mad:

No problem at all with 2-channel listening. No stress, no worries, no technological crap to keep up with every month........
Some things should just be left alone.~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence. ~ -
don't be silly... it'll never go over 99.1 LOL
it's getting silly I agree.PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

Things will always change man. It's a part of life. I for one on a lot of levels don't like change at all. others I love it.
Honestly dude a 5.1 system is all you need. You gotta remember the source material. They playback system can have as many channels as it wants, but until all those channels are needed to replay the material correctly , then thats when it will be nessary.
With that being said, take a look at 7.1 or 6.1. It is not nessary to have a system configured that way to enjoy that movie. The receivers/processors are smart enough to redirect that info into the surround channels and you lose nothing. There is not a lot of movies recorded in 6 or 7.1. So don't get all worried.
DTS MA and DD HD is evolution in the higher level of audio. I love this and I'm very cool with it. Anything that can make my system sound better, I'm in and I will research to I'm BLU in the face.Dan
My personal quest is to save to world of bad audio, one thread at a time. -

7.5 in the HT ( Actually has 4 center channel speakers...2 above and 2 below the plasma screen ....and 5 separate 15" sealed subs) ... 7.3 in the mancave ... 2 channel in a back bedroom.
But as mentioned by others prior...a good 5.1 is all thats needed for great HT...but then most of us never just buy what we need....we like moreThe first rule of Fight Club is you don't talk about Fight Club -

Bingo...5.1 is all you need...unless you have SDA's...then all you need is 2:D -
The Reel-Time ratio is infinity to 1.
Thought of the day.
If you feel stressed your not dead, yet.

Yep, 5.1 will work fine even with DTSMA, etc. Its a much higher resolution of audio first and foremost over the additional # of channels. Although since I have the ability I will be adding a couple rear channels to my HT rig eventually. It'll probably become more useful when more movies are encoded to use those extra channels.____________________

Truth is, you can stop whenever you want. Even blu-rays come with oldschool dolby and DTS tracks so no upgrade is really needed in the audio chain. 5.1 DD and DTS sounds like it always did (maybe even a tad bit better thanks to the higher bitrates) on blu-ray. So just pretend you never heard of anything else and you can stop stressing over it. You don't even need hdmi or analog outs to listen to the old formats. Oldschool digital works like it always did. We're still really at 5.1 here in the US. 7.1 seems to be something more universally done in Asia, especially Hong Kong/China releases. But 6.1 never really caught on. Who knows if even 7.1 will...the major studios seem all too happy to just keep releasing 5.1 tracks on their A list titles...

True, however once you taste it, you'll never go back. As mentioned b4, the surrounds doesn't really bother me.
