Saw the most dangerous cities for 2008 list

Camden, NJ is number 2, Detroit number 3. Number 1 is New Orleans.
I think the only reason New Orleans got to number one is because of the hurricane damage from Katrina which is still not cleaned up and more recently Ike from earlier this year. Add to that the economic situation and I would see crime skyrocketing.
What gets me is how all the rappers brag about how rough and dangerous their hometown is but nobody ever raps about Camden or Flint or Detroit or St. Louis. In fact, the only California city in the top 5 is Oakland and the only other one is the top 15 is Richmond, California.
Oh and sorry Polk Audio, Bodymore didn't even break the top 10, rolling in around number 12. Buncha slackers down there, I'll tell ya! I don't even think you should be about to retain the Bodymore moniker since you only came in at 7 for the murder rankings. I mean Camden is all the way up to 3 in that department and New Orleans is number 1. Even Gary, Indiana at he number 2 ranking beat you guys out. I mean you got beat by a town named Gary. Gary. I'm disappointed, I was expecting more.
For those that don't get it, I am not serious...except for the rankings...and most of my post is intended as satire. That means that if you are going to chastise me for my silly comments, save it 'cause I don't want to hear it nor do I care.

Believe me, I am from Detroit area and I can vouch for its rep. I once saw a T-Shirt that had "I am so bad I vacation in Detroit"

Safest and most dangerous states list came out recently as well. Safest state? Good ole NH.If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

Camden at night was the only time I actually felt a bit concerned for my safety. Hell... I went to a show in downtown Atlanta a week ago by myself, walked three blocks around 2am, was offered crack no less than THREE times, and solicited twice. Might have been the liquid courage, but I really didn't flinch.
Camden had me pissin' my drawers.I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore -
One of my friends who grew up in Detroit used to have police escorts to school, and they didn't have any money...

Wow, I had no idea Baltimore was that violent, seemed like a nice place last time I was there. Number 7 in murders?
-
I dont miss jersey one bit. There are places in Camden that the cops wont even go. The raleigh area is in the top 10 places to live in the country.

Baltimore not dangerous? Apparently WilliamM2 has not seen HBO's "The Wire" series. Yes its fiction, but its very much based on reality. Remember the old NBC show called Homocide? It was based in Baltimore as well.
Detroit being in the top 3 doesn't surprise me either. I commuted to college in Detroit and I always kept a thick metal 'beat down' rod within easy reach of my drivers seat. There are vast expanses of run down, scary areas in the motor city. The police dept there is very understaffed too, and I believe it has been under Federal Oversight for some time.
Nobody rapping about Detroit? Jstas musta forgot about Eminem and Kid RockFor rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore... -
i just visited NO last year, as beautiful of a city as it was, especially the harbor, i got the feeling that it was not safe...and thats coming from a LEO
my suspicions were confirmed while at a local bar there and was BSing with another group of people that were going to the same concert as I, the one guy tells me the nite before he decided to take a short cut to his hotel and strayed off the "strip"(Bourbon street)...dude ends up getting jacked at gunpoint for $500
then there was the LEO conference that was held in NO not long ago, i believe a LEO got followed while walking back to his hotel and was murdered!!
not cool at all especially when a majority of the people i met there were so nice, its just those damn few "tough" guys that always bring a city's rep down -

Some of these pictures make you think it's post Chernobyl Pripyat; nope modern Detroit.

Awww, c'mon guys! You don't think this is a beautiful city?
This photo shows a progression of Camden. It's the same street with pictures taken over about 25 years. "Sequence of 4 photographs taken by Camilo JosExpert Moron Extraordinaire

The part I drove through actually looked worse than those pics.I never had it like this where I grew up. Those were just what I found on the first page of results from a Google image search.
Go down Mt. Ephriam Ave. Or go down near Cooper Hospital (one of the largest trauma centers in the northeast) and I can show you some REALLY bad stuff.
Those pictures I posted are supposed to be some of the "better" parts of town.Expert Moron Extraordinaire

Some old postcards depicting what Camden once was.

There used to be a website called urbanddecay.com or .ca, I can't remember for sure. But they had tons of pictures from all kinds of cities. I can't find the website now but I remember paging through it. Camden, had something like 22 pages of pictures. Detroit had over 30.Expert Moron Extraordinaire

Wow, and the photos just go on and on and on.......
Why don't the lawmakers up there require the property owners to clean up? No wonder crime is so common around there. It looks like a freakin' breeding ground for crime.~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? Dude, that top photo is an AP stock photo of Mumbai. India. Not Detroit. Or Camden for that matter.
And I think this photo is an old aircraft factory in Germany. I remember seeing this photo in a show about the Russians in World War II. I might be mistaken though.Expert Moron Extraordinaire

Probably a good guess / memory, since the filename of the photo is "liepzig3.jpg". Liepzig being a town in Germany. If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

I was going to say that top one looked like a lower middle class neighborhood in India...There is no genuine justice in any scheme of feeding and coddling the loafer whose only ponderable energies are devoted wholly to reproduction. Nine-tenths of the rights he bellows for are really privileges and he does nothing to deserve them. We not only acquired a vast population of morons, we have inculcated all morons, old or young, with the doctrine that the decent and industrious people of the country are bound to support them for all time.-Menkin

No, I remembered it because IIRC, the site was used for filming some of the movie "Enemy At The Gates". I saw the pictures in the film and the pictures in documentary.Expert Moron Extraordinaire

Just checking out realtor.com there's some great deals on houses in Camden!
If you don't mind the extra danger you can get an ultra-low mortgage payment. -

I can't tell you how many people I run into that left New Orleans for
DFW. What happened is the average middle class people blew town.
They couldn't wait two years for the town to rebuild. They left, got other jobs, cashed the insurance checks, and moved on with their lives.
What's left in town are the extremes. The hoods are having a field day.
Here in North Texas, we have the other extreme. Capitalists gone wild.
New housing tracts going up like crazy until this year. Each one a litttle
more expensive than the last. Each new retail center more high end
than the last. High school kids driving BMW, Lexus, etc."The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others. But it does me no injury for my neighbour to say there are twenty gods, or no god. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg." --Thomas Jefferson -

I grew up in Detroit till I was 9. Still go back once a year or so to visit family, etc. A few times in my life we've gotten turned around and had to drive through some of the not-so-nice areas (easy to find not-so-nice areas down there) and it's pretty scary. Surreal scary. . . especially in the winter with smoke / steam coming out from sewer caps, hookers on every corner, lot of thugs and drug dealers. Always told when we drove through those areas to look straight ahead, don't stare or make eye contact with anyone, etc. I'm guessing these weren't even the really bad parts of town.
Even in a decent part of downtown Detroit, we finished up eating some Coney Island and started walking to our car (probably around 2pm during the summer). A bum / crack head asked us for money, then mumbled some other stuff, then walked to the middle of the street and started to urinate in broad daylight. No one else walking around, etc. even blinked at it. Like it was totally normal to piss in the middle of a downtown street during the middle of the day. . .
I never feel uncomfortable in Dallas. No matter where I go, I feel much more safe down here. . .Stereo Rig: Hales Revelation 3, Musical Fidelity CD-Pre 24, Forte Model 3 amp, Lexicon RT-10 SACD, MMF-5 w/speedbox, Forte Model 2 Phono Pre, Cardas Crosslink, APC H15, URC MX-950, Lovan Stand
