Cable "Box" ?

On photos of some high end speaker cable I see a "box" (Kimber's looks like wood) or cylinder at where the cable splits into two.
What is this purpose (a fancy replacement for heatshrink?), does it work, and should I add them to my DYI speaker cables (Canare 4s11 Techflex, heat shrink and banana plugs) for anything other than appearance?

Any pics of which you speak? MIT has "boxes" on their cables and inside are some capacitors, resistors, magic dust or something to offset the something in the cable. (inductance or some such thing)
Anyway - there is really something in there on the MIT cables. Not sure about the kimbers though.Mains.............Polk LSi15 (Cherry)

On Transparent and MIT these are called network bricks. They shield out Interference and the higher end cables get better built bricks. This is where the technology goes into these cables. According to the training I had on Transparent, this is what separates them from all other cables. It's what makes them a better choice. In places where Interference is strong, these types of cables can transmit the signal without picking up other signals.
Kimber I never researched but I plan on meeting with the rep soon. I will get all the info I can on there cables.Dan
