only reason i would prefer i denon or yamaha is because of the automatic sound rezoning they offer i dont know if im calling it the rigt thing or not but its wehre you set the reciever up to automaticaly measure the room for sound.
as for my speakers am i making a good choice? or should i upgrade them to something else? i.e diff surrounds or rears?
like i said before im really new to all this so i really dont know how amps work.. guess i got alot of reading to do.
hope everyone had an awesome/safe weekend. and just wanted to say i really do appreciate all the help i have got.
Yes that is a good choice for speakers.
Pioneer calls their auto cal., MCACC (Pioneer proprietary).
Yamaha = YPAO (Yamaha proprietary) Denon = Audyssey MultEQ (licensed from Audyssey)
The Denon doesn't have pre outs.
The 6180 adds a lot of $$ cost for only a couple features more than the 6160, IMHO not worth it. The 6190 and 6290 are new and I don't think they have been released yet in the states.
While the 6160 and the Pioneer will be able to drive your speaker choices, the 6190/6290 would probably do a little better with the extra power, although it's not that much more. But you will have the option (because of the pre outs) to add amps at your discretion. A couple monos, 2 ch, 3 ch 5-7 what ever way you choose. After the holidays you will probably find almost anything you want. Used, open box, refurbished, new, many options with amps, technology doesn't move as fast on them.
You should be set for some time after you get everthing wired up and calibrated I think you will be very happy. -
so im still doing some reading on the receivers but here is what i am going to do on my speakers.
towers: RTi A9
center: CSi A6
rears: RTi A3
surrounds: FXi A6

I just picked up an open box Yamaha HTR-6160 off Ebay for $275.00 cdn dollars which is about $222.00 american dollars. Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD master decoding. 7.2 output. Analog outs. Best bang for buck receiver out there right now imho.SDA-1C (full mods)

are my choices good?
or would rear towers provide me with more? -
I used to have two rear speakers setup but found it did so little to add to the overall effect that the space they took up was not worth the gain in sound. That being said if you are set on experiencing 7.2 your choices for speakers seem quite good. All the mid drivers are the same size and will "voice" similarly. I'm using the RTiA7's with RTi70 surrounds and a CSi40 center and have been pleased as punch for almost a year on the surround setup. The RTiA9's you are looking at can deliver serious bass (with enough power). How big is your listening room? You may be very satisfied with the A7's if the room is not overly large. Anyway I use two 10" subs with the HT setup but none when playing vinyl. I have my A7's on a switch and can switch them to the turntable amp/pre-amp system. With the 225 watts/channel the Carver amp provides no sub is neccessary to get the A7's really deep and loud if I want. I imagine the A9's would be even better. By the way...the A7's sounded good right out of the box but got better and better with age. I thought they were fully broken in at about 6 months but they just keep sounding better (deeper more articulate bass). Enjoy!!SDA-1C (full mods)

Great deal! I paid $400 US new roe my 663 pre-order so there weren't any open box yet. First time I ever pre ordered and probably the last. I am extreamly happy with it. Just like $200 better Just running it as a pre-pro but it does everything I need and at the time it came out was the only thing that did at that price. -
what about NOT using rear bookshelves and going with rti a5 or rti a7 for my rears?
-
You could do that, but placement could be an issue. You want to get your rear speakers above you, rule of thumb the tweeters around or slightly above ear level while standing. Your front and center tweeters ear level when sitting.
Also I think it would be a little over kill and $$ not needed. Unless you find it easier to place the towers on an end table or some reason easier than wall or shelf mounting the A3's you had selected earlier. I think calibration would be able to even things out, if that is even a problem. For movies the rears are only adding effects, you want an accurate wide range speaker but nothing like you need for the fronts. Again this is just opinion but I think the speakers you had picked out earlier were a great choice. You might be over thinking things now. -
thanks for the tips... also looking for more input.
just after i buy rear book shelves and stands for them i could easily have the rti a5 or rti a7 for a little bit more. -
just wanted to say thanks to everyone who gave me help on here.
