I am very familiar with this amplifier. This combo would be a match made in heaven. This amp has a very tube-like quality to it. Personally I think that it has the absolute best top end of any non-esoteric or rare Carver amp out there. The rolloffs are natural, life like and about as smooth and wonderful as you can get with the commonly available Carver amplifiers. It is emulated to sound like the famed Carver Silver Seven tube amps that are still a highly acclaimed and well sought after amplifier. There are two other models that have the same guts, specs and sonic signature as this amplifier as well, those being the TFM-4.0 and the TFM-42. The only differences being slight modifications to the faceplate and the circuitry that controls the LED's on the faceplate. These modifications make no changes to the sonics of each of these amplifiers.

I had the M-4.0t paired with the RTi-10 series speaker [similar to the RTi A9 series] a couple of years back and the combo was very nice. I don't think that this would be a bad combo in the slightest and this particular amplifier would keep you happy for years to come paired with this speaker. The fact that it is an 8 ohm speaker that has the mid section sealed off from the lower section would provide you with an even better sound in mids than I experienced. The amp will provide plenty of available power and headroom, not to mention clean power for years of trouble free performance and great sound.

I wish you luck on your purchase if this is the route you decide to take. I have a 4.0t that is one of the rare black faceplate models. I don't believe that it will leave my hands even though it's currently not in my main rig, as I appreciate it too much. It will most likely be handed down to any children that I may have so that they can enjoy this hobby as well. If yours isn't black, it is anthracite in color on the faceplate, FYI.

Yes, you'll see LED's instead of those big analog meters...

    Sorry, couldn't resist.
I've never heard an M-500t, but I've got a TFM 4.0 and I like it alot.

that m500 is no slouch either, I never owned one but have heard it on a number of occasions and I would say the 4.0 is definitly a bit warmer.

if you can get the 4.0 at a good price, then get it. to me, its one of those "have to own" amps in your audio travels. I have a tfm45 as well (same amp, different look) in the theater with the 4.0 in storage as a spare.

    sell it?, heeeellllllll no!

Pinktulip, to answer this question you must first let us know if we have another lady that has joined this forum. The reason I ask is that your moniker doesn't really reflect that of a typical man's moniker.

If you are a lady, then by all means welcome to the forum. Women in this hobby are few and far between and are generally a hoot to chat with. Not to mention, there are other ladies on this forum that would love to know that they aren't the only one's.

BTW, even if you are a dude I can answer your question. ;)

The M4.0t and all its siblings TFM-4.0, TFM-42 and TFM-45 are hardly low-end shy amps. They were all modified to sound like tube amps and that would be at both top and bottom ends. You couple any of those amps with speakers that can go deep, in a room that will also go deep, and here's what you get.......

The **** rolls around the floor at around ankle level until it fully blossoms and makes you pee yourself. Will that be good enough for you?

M1.5t is a great amp that offers a great deal of power, but in my opinion is just a LITTLE less refined sounding than the M4.0t series.

+1 on that, especially the big boys (HCA-2200, -3500). I also thought they were a little more refined and truer in the midrange than the Carver's as well. YMMV, of course....

Well, the OP has an M-500t and when comparing the 4.0t to the M-500t then yes. The bass is a little less emphasized. This is one of the reasons I said that it had a very "tube" like quality to it. It's not that it's bad, it's just not as present as in the M-500t.

Pinktulip7, give it time. You may find that it is a change in what you are used to and if you were expecting a boatload of bass then this was not the amp to choose. This is one of the qualities of this particular amplifier believe it or not. Try it on some of your favorite songs, you may end up liking the sonic qualities better than the M-500t. If not, you can always bi-amp the speakers if they are compatible and enjoy the best that each amplifier has to offer IMO. You can use the M-500t for the lows and the M4.0t for the highs. Best of both worlds.......
