I replaced the stock power cords on my Marantz SA-8001 and Musical Fidelity A1 with Audioquest NRG-3 cords. An intial A/B suggested neither a degradation in sound quality nor a significant improvement. However, after a couple of days of being powered up, I must say that my system has never sounded better. Nice looking cables as well. Overall, I am quite pleased with my purchase. Big sound quality improvement? No, but I think there are improvements and the cords are functionally and aesthetically pleasing.

But is it worth the price?
If life had more tubes it would be a lot smoother.

For me yes. I have my speakers, integrated amp, source, and ICs where I want them and this was the iceing on the cake. I would not have bought the cables new, I bought 1 used from Mantis and another off the 'gon new for a great price.

I recently did the same thing with 2 different Audioquest cables and took them both back. They do look flash as but couldn't justify the $'s for a better look. Got a much bigger improvement with a power cord upgrade. MUCH BIGGER.

I found the SA-8001 very dark, Signal's digital reference PC helped give it a little more life.

I think the SA-8001 falls to the slightly warm, robust side of neutral. It sounds very close to my Denon 3910 but does everything a bit better. I also think the PCs added some spark to the system.

I don't wanna derail but I have a NRG-2 here if you want it. It's in the flea market as well.

I never heard a huge sound quality improvement over the factory cords but I did notice a silence in the system. More air in the presentation. When things are suppost to be quiet, they seem more quite with the replacement cords.

I have used a few different companies for power cords and I found that the Audioquest and Kimber models to be the best. I really like the Audioquest and plan on getting 5's.
