This set up is either for me or my buddy, i dont know yet (we both already have 2 Dynamos) and I can pick up Depth for $900 + tax (maybe this is too much). We both live in condos and maybe Depth will be overkill (i dont want my neighbors furniture to shake).....i dont know

suppose i can sell Dynamos for $375 each, thats $750, add another $190 and get Depth. Or save myself all the trouble and try out my Dynamos with SMS-1 which I can pick up for $350-400 (and easily sell it if I dont hear big difference)

kolyan2k, if it were up to me I would choose the combo that includes the SMS-1. Reason being is that you can utilize the SMS-1 to match not only the sub to the room, but the sub to the mains as well. That will give you the end result of a seamless transition, regardless of the sub utilized. I have nothing but positive praise for the SMS-1 and that is one piece of gear that will always be in my main rig.

There was even a member of this forum that sold his SMS-1 to hook up two or three subs and he ended up repurchasing the SMS-1. It's a great piece of gear IMO that even if you upgrade down the road, will work with whatever new sub(s) you get. Please note that if you do ever want a second sub and you do want them to run in stereo that you will need to daisy chain another SMS-1, otherwise both subs will be mono. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Well after spending few days with Depth i that I bought, I think I will stick with dual Dymanos and will try out SMS-1. Now dont get me wrong here, Depth i is a great sub, its just Dynamos sound good enough for MY ears, they cost less, they are small and light wieght, and also sort of like the design they give to my room.

not my final decision, but i am almost sure.

I have a lot of experience with Martin Logan subs and I also have had a Depth I in my house for awhile. The Depth i is a much better sub then the Dynamo. Not to take anything away from the Dynamo as I don't think there is a sub made at it's price point thats better. The Depth take it's musical ability to a new level. it's faster and more acurate. I have found it to blend with my Dynaudio Audience 82 speakers for 2 channel seemless. I have to a few time go up to the sub to make sure I was using it. My 82's hit hard and throw a lot of bass clean and very controlled. They also have a very strong mid range. The Depth fooled you to believe every note was coming from the speakers. This is how I judge a sub. I don't care how much force and slam a sub has. Cheap crappy subs do all that. If you can hear the sub then either it's not set up correctly or it doesn't have the ability to disappear.

Now running 2 Dynamo sub together is interesting . If you place them correctly and tune them to the room right, I can see not wanting to own a single depth due to price. But if you can get a depth for 900.00, you are a fool not to own it. It lists for 2000.00 new and worth every single cent at retail price. It's an amazing sub and I would be proud to own one myself. If I didn't already own the Dynaudio Sub 500 I would own a Depth or a Decent .

Martin Logan the first year the made subs took me. I was a huge Rel fan until I first experienced Martins subs. There first year was killer. I could not believe a company who never made a sub, can come onto the scene and blow away most other companies at will. Crazy but true.

Good luck either way you can't go wrong. both subs are fantastic and owning 2 is even better.

any SMS-1 pros in here ?

does preset 6 completely turns SMS-1 off ? asking because I can hardly hear the differences in preset 6 and for example preset 2 ? My eqs on the screen are all pretty close to 0 after running AutoEQ.

and the second question is do SelfEQ and AutoEQ work together or its 2 different ways to set SMS-1 up ?

    Thanks.

ps. I adjusted both AVR and SMS-1 volume to close to 80db, then turned off crossovers, ran SelfEQ, and then ran AutoEQ.

I don't know about preset 6 as I have only used two presets in mine. As far as the Self EQ and the auto EQ, those are two separate animals.

so which one did you use ? AutoEQ or SelfEQ ?

I noticed that in SelfEQ only LFE channel is playing and in AutoEQ its both mains and LFE.

ok. this is what i was told by velodyne people: SelfEQ is a simple "auto" mode, AutoEQ is a more advanced automatic mode, and if after AutoEQ all equalizers are close to 0, that means that your system does not need much eq. and SMS-1 might not be the product for you unless you want to do everything manually
