XRT12 12V trigger confusion

I'm looking to start using the 12V trigger to turn the XRT12 on and off via some home automation jury-rigging.
I've attempted providing 12V at a few low amperage levels via two different wall-warts and I'm not getting any result. Is there something special that needs to be done? Can anyone point out if it's looking for a specific amperage, or some sort of pulse?
Thanks so much

Hello Ed,
When the unit is in the standby mode and 12VDC is applied to the trigger input the unit will come out of standby. When the 12Volts are removed the unit will return to the satndby mode. You would need a 1/8" mono plug with the tip at + and the barel at - polarity.
