Hey fellows I bought a Velodyne dps 12 about 2 years ago and today i died on me just quit working. I looked on the back of it, as i guessed made in china. The kinda ticked me off that a name brand like Velodyne was made in china. I'm looking for a replacement for this sub, I want to buy something made in japan or buy a Polk, any ideas my budget is around 600 bucks.

thanks for your help in advance

What isn't made in China? (rhetorical question)
Odds are a product may be engineered and designed in the US, but its likely actually manufactured overseas (or Mexico or Canada).
I don't mean to burst your bubble or anythign but Polk speakers are "Made in China" too.

If you can streach you budget to the plus series - they are great subs.... (not that the NSD's are bad - but it is worth the additional cost for the plus series imo). I would love to have the ultra (and would consider it a great upgrade) but it is just not in my price range right now....
    Mains.............Polk LSi15 (Cherry)
    Center............Polk LSiC (Crossover upgraded)
Surrounds.......Polk LSi7 (Gloss Black - wood sides removed and crossovers upgraded)
    Subwoofers.....SVS 25-31 CS+ and PC+ (both 20hz tune)
    Pre\Pro...........NAD T163 (Modded with LM4562 opamps)
    Amplifier.........Cinepro 3k6 (6-channel, 500wpc@4ohms)

I would say they are comperable (price to price). The new MicroPro series is the only series I would really consider worth putting in a home theater environment (if your buget allows them) and real competition to SVS, HSU, eD, Epik or Outlaw (HSU designed).

I would say typically it is the quality of the cabinet, Woofer and amp more than the direction the woofer is firing.....

Sub placement/location and room characteristics can have a huge effect on a subs performance. This may have had more impact on the difference in the two than anything else.

SVS is considered in the top 3 of price/performance subs on this site and just about any others you could visit. HSU, Epik, eD and probably SVS will help you choose the right model for your room needs if you talk to someone in sales (phone/email) Let them know your priorities (music/HT) room size (cubic ft) and any openings to other rooms. They'll set you up.

SVS, HSU, Outlaw, Epic, eD, Outlaw (HSU design) and Polk (MicroPro series) are all very good. It is up to you to decide how they fit into your price, size, design and performance needs.

what about any of the other polk series subs the micro pro is a bit pricey for me. Now i like polk dont get me wrong I have to polk monitor 70's for my mains, and they rock to be driven by only 80 watts they kick. Also im a fan of polk always have been i grew up to a pair of polk sda srs speakers so yeah im polk ruined. It seemed as if my velodyne sub faded into the background i mean at times you couldnt tell it was on now if you were listening to hip hop it rattled the walls. i want to know i have a sub if you get my drift.

I don't think you could go wrong with the SVS. At your $600 price range you may also want to look at the Martin Logan Dynamo, a very musical sub that I have heard also does a pretty good job with movies.

Also with the package deals eD known mostly for subs also makes speakers. Components are imported, but the cabinets are made, and assembled in the US (the subs at least)

How long of a run are you talking? What type of input? It sounds like you are going with an SVS so I would guess that it has a couple options.

I like Monoprice for bang for the buck.
