Well I did ask for your honest opinion!

Honestly I can't afford over $300 total...too close to Christmas.
I wish I could afford about $400+ but......:(
The sub I linked to is $300 w/free shipping.

Here is another budget sub that I've heard and it's very decent.

This is the Hsu design based on the venerable STF 3. You'll get very real 20hz performance and great output. Sure it's fugly, but it will perform.

I considered that sub when I was getting mine. Wish I could have seen some reviews. I'm sure if it's a HSU design it rocks.

The thing that kept me away is that it is out of stock until mid-February.

Oops, I didn't notice that. The 10" model has gotten good reviews, it's a STF 2 clone, but it's not listed on the site any longer, so it's probably OOS too.

WoW! The Cadence looks to be a good bang for the buck sub. You've heard it Ron? How well does it perform? I may consider trying one of those myself.
I bought a CSX 15 for my son for Xmas and a buddy bought his dad a CSX 12. We both did little mini reviews on AVS and AH (his is better), but Cadence linked them on their site...look on the CSX 15 page. Anyway the CSX 12 is a very solid performer down to ~ 25hz, quite a lot of output and midbass punch. The CSX 15 is more articulate and powerful, but not by much. I owned the previous XSub12 which was an excellent budget performer...did a comparison with the Bic H100, which was slightly better, but the CSX 12 owns them both. They are not quite in the ED class, but the CSX12 can be had for ~ $250 shipped or less with ebay discounts or Cadence's online coupons.

Thanx for all the input Guys!

Still not quite sure what I'm gonna get but I found a Yamaha YST-SW315 that looks to be top on my list.

    How do these specs look?

    Advanced YST Technology •
    QD Bass Technology •
    High Efficiency Power Amplifier •
    Multi-Range Driver 10" Cone
    Magnetic Shielding •
    High Cut Filter 40 - 140 Hz
Phase Control (Normal or Reverse) •
    Auto Standby •
BASS (Bass Action Selector system) •
    Dynamic Power 270W
    Frequency Response 20 - 160 Hz (-10 dB)

    Impressive dip to 20hz!!

    Your thoughts?

I can not comment on this sub. Ron Temple has some experience with the Cadence subs and I think he said they were pretty good.

I am with you on the budget. While overhauling my gear I wanted to find a good subwoofer at a good price til I was able to afford what I really wanted. I bought a Boston Acoustics Horizon Series HPS12HO Subwoofer and received it friday. It was purchased from one call on amazon shipped for 216. I absolutely love it. I think this is a good sub. I bought it on the name of boston acoustics having never heard it. Some might not agree but I think for the price that I got it for it cant be beat and its well within your budget.

There's usually an online coupon that will work on their site

TENOFF ... or maybe lower caps, IDK ... just from memory. Also, there have been a couple of ebay offerings for up 30% from a couple of sites...live.com is one of them, but I really don't know the details. Someone here should chime in or contact Cadence on Monday.

I had a Velodyne for my first sub and for the $$$ you can't go wrong, but I sold it and UPS totally trashed it in shipping. So after that I stepped up to the SvS PB12+2 and (OMFG!) that was one heck of a upgrade once I got my Velodyne sms-1 hooked up to it. Now my whole house shakes.
here is a picture of the ceiling of my dining room after I finished watching Transformers. I ended up breaking the key in the Lath and plaster. needless to say my wife liked to had a cow.

    :)

Well I DID get a Velo DSP-10 but not from there.
    $225 shipped NIB.
Was up on the bay on a $250 BIN and I had a PP coupon for 10% off.

Now that's not a bad deal!!!

I greatly appreciate everyones input on this!

The Cadence was VERY tempting but just a lil too big for the place I had to put it.
    18in wide was just a bit much vs the DSP-10 @ 14.5in.
I had a Velodyne CT-100 and loved it.
If it's anywhere near as nice as the CT-100 I had I'll be plenty happy!
It does have lil more RMS @ 185 watts (CT-100 150watts)
Not to mention Velodyne has one of the best warranty's I've seen! Three years (electronics) Five years (drivers)
All these crazy brands out there.....I just decided to go with a brand that I knew was good.
Too bad Polk didn't make a better sub!
I have never found any of em very impressive. :(

Gain is @ 12 o'clock sms-1 was at 7 and volume on the receiver was -27.5 db. This is a old house. I'd say the lath and plaster was weak and I just vibrated it a little bit too much.

I guess I had better be careful of all the crystal on the entertainment center shelves and resonances and what not. I always thought I could fix the walls, but her antique crystal from her grandmother???:eek::eek:

Maybe I'll buy her a real pretty and expensive display cabinet for them and put it in another room.;)

I am looking at the Cadence CSX-12 and Bic H100. What do you guys think is the better sub on a budget? Thanks, CK

The only way a sub from best buy would damage a plasma is if you threw it at the TV....

Yeah... if you're talking about the KSW-series that they still insist on trying to get people to buy...

But a lot of the Best Buys are carrying the RW-series, and they're quite another animal. I have the RW-10D, and it's a VERY competent sub in every aspect. Fast, deep, strong as hell.
I don't read the newsssspaperssss because dey aaaallllllllll...... have ugly print.

Both are pretty darned good at the price. My gut says the Cadence, it's been 3 years since I heard the Bic and about a year for the Cadence. The Bic and the previous rev of the Cadence were here at the same time and very close. The new Cadence is much better.

    Combo rig:

Onkyo NR1007 pre-pro, Carver TFM 45(fronts), Carver TFM 35 (surrounds)
    SDA 1C, CS400i, SDA 2B
    PB13Ultra RO
    BW Silvers
    Oppo BDP-83SE

The best I previewed was a KEF.....it was round kinda looked like a tire in a stand.
Don't recall the model....it was at a local high end store.
Guy told me it was $500 bux + our 8.3% sales tax here.
It really thumped.....10in driver on one side and 10in passive on the other.
Was a odd looking thing to say the least.

BTW: This was the same guy that said Polk was cheap junk!

    *** UPDATE ***
