Hello all, I am new to the forum and I am setting up my first real HT system and I could use some help with the rears that I should get.

I currently have:

Denon AVR-2808CI reveiver
Polk Monitor 70's for the fronts (Bi-Amped)
Polk CS2 Center
Polk PSW10 Sub (hey it was free with the other speakers)

Now, Polk suggest that I use the Monitor 40's with my current speakers, but they will not work for me...

They are too big and not nice to look at on your wall... :(

My two options from what I can tell are the RM8's (Cheap, small) or the FXi A4's... I am leaning toward the FXi surrounds but I am not sure how they will "blend" with the rest of my system.

Any input would be really helpful!

    He he he... but seriously.

I would go with the FXis. They would better match your other speakers and Polk's bipole/dipole speakers are just great. I would probably try to find an older, non-"A" pair, but either will sound great.

Good advise and I'll add consider a pair of TC series in wall or in ceiling speakers. WAF is awesome and they sound excellent.

In-wall is not really an option for me... I am renting a loft and I don't want to put huge holes in the walls. Plus the 14' ceilings make it tough to put them up there...

Once I move back into my house in a few years this will become my living-room set up and I can start work on a dedicated HT room, in-wall surrounds will be my first choice.

Thanks for the help so far guys.

If I can find the older FXi's I will check into them, I doubt I want a used set though... I like to buy this stuff brand new.

If you pinch the wardens nipples. . . you'll get out of work detail.
    Or so I hear.

Have you thought about the monitor 30's. I am now running monitor 50 for fronts, monitor 40 for surrounds and monitor 30 for rears. I havent hooked up the monitor 30's because my 7.1 receiver is still in transit. They have great reviews and will definitely match being that they are monitor series. I agree the 40's are huge. I didnt realize it til I unpacked them and put them on the stands for my surrounds. They sound good, and newegg has the for 149 with free shipping for a pair brand new. The 30's arent that much cheaper.

They are smaller and would deff match the Monitor 70's... But it's still a fairly large box just sitting on my wall.

The FXi A4's have a good 3"s less depth and generally look better, that's a big deal for my wife. ;)

It was hard enough for her to wrap her head around the Monitor 70's.

Trust me, I have to do A LOT more than just pinch my "wardens" nipples to get out of work detail...
