Which drivers did you order? Its best to replace all 4 of the mids at once.Sorry I didnt mention that. The newer drivers are a little different and require 100hrs break in time. When I replaced all of mine they didnt sound too good at first but now they sound great. Soon you will get the itch to recap the crossovers....

I've only been a home theater guy until I got these SDA II's. What did I get myself into?:D I'll be sure to break them in. The original SDA's only have three drivers. They also have the one 12" sub radiator and the two silver dome tweeters.

It was $300 per speaker. Why not?:confused:Fedex screwed up the shipping big time. The box was brand new when shipped. I got it here, picked it up, and it fell apart while the other was just fine. It had punctures and was very deformed. I think it'll happen. I'll make sure of it.;)

Would upgrading the tweeters in my SDA's be really upgrading them? I've heard that the SL1000 tweeters resonate at certain frequencies, which I've heard listening to certain songs. How much would it cost? Also, would I have to buy all four tweeters to upgrade? What about the crossovers? I've heard about upgrading them. I love my SDA's thus far, and am continuing to love them more and more as I listen to them. I'm just wondering how much better these SDA's could get.

A-lot better when you have the money to do so.You should recap the xovers first. If your on a budget go with dayton caps.If not go for sonicaps.Ben could do the recap for you if you dont want to solder. He is probably the best choice to do it for you.Very reasonable price to do the work too.

Hmmmm.....Ricardo that's very unusual as they normally won't cover internal damages, especially with electronics, unless there is obvious external damage to said item, not the carton.

That's why it's called an upgrade and yes, do all the tweeters.

I don't even know why I asked that. Of course if I'm going to different tweeters I can't leave the older ones in there.:p How much for all four? How much for the crossover stuff too?

Tweeters are 48.00 each with the club discount.Xovers depend on which caps you decide to go with. For my xovers it would be around 100 for both with dayton.Twice as much if I use sonicaps.Or you could use sonicaps on the high pass and dayton on the low like others have done.Do a search on crossover mods and you will find a-lot of info posted here as well as some prices they paid. And check out www.soniccraft.com

    Hi everyone,

I just picked up a pair of SDA 2As? Anyway, there are some rips in the rubber of the speakers. Does the whole speaker need to be replaced or can I just replace the rubber? If so where would be the best place to get the rubber from?

Here is a link to a picture of my issue.

Im not sure what you can use to fix that.Im not even sure if polk would re-rubber those. You can always call them and ask.Im sure some other members have had that problem and used something to seal it up.

Is that picture of a driver or the passive radiator? If it is a PR, you have no choice but repair the damage as Polk hasn't sold them in years.

Yes it is the passive radiator. So the rubber surround can't be replaced on these? If I have to repair the hole, how would you suggest I do that?

    I thought so.

There is no replacement for the rubber surround.

There have been discussions about that in the past, but I don't recall the details. You could try the search function, but it's not the easiest to use. You could also start a new thread on that topic.

The part number for your PR's is SW121, if you go looking for used ones.

The PE radiators don't work as well as the Polk's. The surrounds are stiffer on them, and they do not fit the cutout. I took some medical gauze and some sillycone to patch them from behind. I have some 12" PR's in Georgia. I will be there in April if you want fix what you have for now and get a replacement later.

I found a local guy named Bill Legall, his company is called Millersound. I found out about him either on this forum or an AK forum, I can't remember. Either way, he does nothing but speaker work and got a lot of great reviews from people all over the country and he is only 20 minutes from me!

I emailed him and told him about the rubber surround holes in my polk PR sw121 and he quickly responded saying he can replace the rubber surround for $35 no problem.

Let us know how that works out because that's the first time I've heard of anyone saying that they can replace those surrounds. You have to be sure that they are the same as any differences will result in changes to the sound performance.
