Got this from another site, hope Mantis is OK sad news

"Just got a call from a Manufacturer's rep buddy in Boston that Tweeter has been sold to a liquidator.

Warehouses are closed, and product has been pushed to the stores. Corporate office was closed this morning.

Sad day for the industry.

Next up, Circuit City."

I don't believe it was a business run for anything but profit at the top level anyways. The company ran itself into the ground. Mantis will be fine and he's a skilled installer not just a BB newbie. I think he even has some Cedia courses under his belt.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

    Hi guys ,
Tweeter is in really bad shape. It's not looking good. A lot of things got us to this point and I would love to tell you guys everything but right now I'm still in shock. I have worked for Tweeter nearly 9 years and I have put my heart and soul into the company. I have tried to make it a better place and one of the best Install companies in the world.

Over the last few years the company kept trying new things, changing lines and moving people around. This in itself helped us get where we are now.

Everyone thinks we will be closed in 7 weeks, it's the word on the sales floor but it's not official. I'm hoping for the best and this huge sale and warehouse moves are all positive. On paper it's suppost to save us a huge sum of money. Hopefully someone in the company will pull it together and we can go on stronger then before. If not I'm unemployed at a time where the market is in trouble as it is.

If this does go down, I know a lot of people in the Industry. I'm sure I will be working for someone else soon. But thats a gamble right now as the market for what I do is down.

Personally I'm a wreck. I have 2 Kids , wife , house , bills and it's right before Christmas. When I found out on Halloween , I had a lot of trouble enjoying trick or treating with my children. I walked around in a daze. I have not had a good nights sleep since. I know I will be fine, I feel that inside as I have a ton of experience, I have a long list of training and Certifications not to mention Installer of the year every other year.

I also over the years have been offered positions at other AV companies. Around my way, we have some really good companies I would love to work for. I'm also considering going into Business for myself. This is what I do and I have no desire to do anything else. I'm a Custom In Home Audio/Video Installer/Programmer. It's what I do. If I continue to do it with Tweeter , Someone else or myself, It's what I do.

I'm trying my best to look at this as a opportunity and not as a disaster. It's going to take some time to get over the shock. Sorry for the rant but I'm hurting over here.

Good luck. Remember, people who are good at their jobs always land on their feet someway or another. This may be what you need to go solo and be your own boss. Always look for a silver lining in everything.

Dan, Im sure it will all work out. When I found out last year that my job was getting outsourced it gave me the opportunity to relocate and I could not be happier. Alot of my coworkers thought it was the worst for me it was a good thing. I think you will be like me and wind up in a better place from all of this.

When does the auction for the gear start?

    Las

I don't think there will be an auction. A company called Hilco has bought the inventory from what I have read. The same company that liquidated Comp USA.

I just don't see many deals coming out of this. They usually jack the prices up then put on the big advertising blitz 10%-20% to start off with.

You are truly a good bunch of people. I thank each and everyone of you for the support. It really means a lot.
Over the last few months I have watched company after company , lay off after layoff and felt terrible for all those people. I watched it in Tweeter. So many good people lost there jobs. I feel I'm gonna be one of them soon.
I think I could handle this a lot better is the market wasn't terrible and it wasn't right before Christmas.

I hate to see this happen but I guess it was inevitable. There just doesnt seem to be a big enough market for high end, quality gear to support a big box retailer like Tweeter. Too many people go into a Circuit City, Best Buy and now Walmart and find home theater systems for $150 then go to Tweeter and see the systems that cost many times more and think "why the hell would I buy this" not realizing or caring about the difference in performance or quality.

Our local Tweeter closed here a little over a year ago and I hated it. I bought as much of my car audio gear from there as I could in my attempt to support them but everytime I walked in there it was abandoned while the Best Buy in the same shopping center was standing room only. Sad indeed.

Best Buy must be doing well, they just added a Pro audio section. Seems like everyone is falling and BB is climbing. They must be doing something right.

Sorry to hear of your job upheaval, but things will work themselves out ......and for the better for you.

Now, I'm certainly not trying to steer you towards a career at Best Buy, but some thoughts came to mind after reading your post.

Perhaps someday people might say, "Hey, remember how Best Buy used to be ? Yeah, they didn't totally suck, and they did start offering a Pro Audo section to their stores, but remember when that d00d Dan started working at BB and got all their stores to get truly serious about high end gear and installation ?"

....and you can fill in the rest.

Now, that's just a hypothetical situation, to be sure, but ..... you've got your stuff together enough that you'll land on your feet, solidly, no matter who's lucky enough to get your services.

In the meantime, plug and chug, and let The Big Guy work out the details.

Whatever you do, start circulating your resume NOW. Waiting until the axe drops is not the time you want to be doing that. I'm not saying you have to take something else, but at least get jumpin on something else that you might want to do to minimize the potential downtime.

I agree with this.....It took forever for that company to actually liquidate the CompUSA stores. Unless you're able to swoop in at the very last moment and buy in bulk sets, the "deals" aren't going to be all that impressive.......

I actually didn't mind going into a Tweeter store. Unlike BB or CC, they had a bit of class. I'll be sorry to see them go.

Dan, keep your chin up. A guy with your talent and knowlwdge will come out of this better off than before. Polish up your resume and get them out now.

O.K., since you already have an understanding of controls, let's apply that to a different source-HVAC! I assume you're already programming via a laptop? Same principals apply to commercial & industrial hvac control systems. Johnson Controls, Andover Controls, Trane, etc. all have Energy Management Systems.
Granted, they'd probably like a person w/ hvac experience, but, it couldn't hurt?

Some of our(was) control systems we did control HVAC. It was cool setting up
timed events like weekly. I'm a audio video guy and as cool as HVAC can be to control, I wouldn't want to do that for a living.

I'm very thankful for you to think of me,

Mantis, Very Very sorry to hear about this. I feel for you and your family-I know what it feels like. However I've never had times like this when I had kids and a house to worry about, but now that I have kids, I can only imagine the uneasy unknowing feelings you must be experiencing. :(

Good Luck with your search for a new career, whatever path you choose. You have the experience, you know what you're doing-Going into business for your self might actually be the way to go-Well if nothing else turns up, you'll at least have that going for you as an option.

Late last year, my Brother had his leg shattered. He's a General contractor/carpenter by trade. He lost his job because of it. He's only now just able to use his leg again enough to do what he knows best. So he started his own business up. Its only been a couple months, but he already doesn't have enought time to fix my house up because he has enough work for now. So things are looking up for him and I hope it works out for you as well. So chin up. :) If Tweeters' not going to be doing installs anymore, somebody's got to take up the demand and there has to be demand somewhere.
