Whats up all?

I'm going to Install Windows Xp on my Macbook Pro and I'm undecided which system to use. What I plan on doing with the Windows xp is Programming Urc, Crestron , Control 4, Elan , Niles , etc. I have no desire to share any files or folders with Mac osx so Emulator software is not for me. Not to mention when I Program , I want full power .

Now my question is which way to format the Partition. Fat 32 or NTSF ? I probably need about 30 to 40g partition. I plan on backing up all my customer files and saving them on Flash and backup hard drives. I don't plan on having anything else on the Windows side.

I use mac osx for everything else. Pictures, Internet , Music , movies, everything. So I want max hard drive space left.

My mac has a 250g hard drive. I don't know if it matters but I have the brand new Macbook pro. it's incredible by the way.

Thanks for your input,

Dan

    Dan,

Set up bootcamp for XP, allocate 40gb. Stay with NTFS. One disadvantage is you have to reboot to switch between the two OS. That's why (whether you want to share files between the OS or not) using something like VMWare Fusion or Parallel is more desirable.
I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

Also, NTFS can be read in OS X but you cannot write to the disk. With FAT32 you can read and write but one of the downsides to FAT32 is that file sizes can not exceed 4GB. I personally have a separate drive dedicated to Vista on my Mac Pro which is NTFS format.

From what I have learned is that If you run Fusion or Parallel you have to share your processor, memory , video and both OS systems don't use full power of your machine. Now as Powerful as this Pro is , I don't think it will be a problem but some of my Windows work programming programs are demanding and I don't want to have slow downs when I'm programming. Time is money to me. I do however love the idea of using Fusion as they now have fusion 2 and it's suppose to be awesome.

Overall I think Mac is awesome. The ability to run 2 OS at the same time or be able to boot into one or the other is already incredible. Thats having your cake and eating it. I love it.

So 40g will do and NTSF is the way to go. Cool I'll probably do it today. I'm gonna wait for more comments and do some more research but thanks so much for the advise.

    no prob, Dan.

I use VMWare Fusion 2.0 on my MBP. VMWare is an awesome product, not just this one, but I use VMWare Enterprise to run Oracle databases too at work (well, not me, but my DBA team). Stable and powerful.
