No Pre-out question...

So today my Harman Kardon PA-2000 amp arrives. Since I have no pre-out in my H/K AVR130 receiver, I'm told I can use the Tape-out but I won't have any volume control. How does this affect playback? Don't I want my signal at full volume? How could this damage my system? What does this mean to my speakers? Also, my speakers are rated at 100wpc should I be careful with my volume with the new amp cuz it's rated right at 100wpc? Also, I was contemplating buying another PA-2000. Can I use them to Bi-amp my speakers? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you all you Ghoulie's and have a happy All Hallows Eve....

I don't think the tape out method is going to work too well for you. The only volume control you will have will be the trim levels for the individual channels. Those are on the back of the PA-2000s.

The second PA-2000 would work great to bi-amp because these can be cascaded from one to the next to the next, etc.

If someone has an inexpensive receiver with pre-outs, or a pre-amp, I can make you a "deal you can't refuse" on another PA-2000..

My only volume control will be on the amp itself? I thought it meant My Signal volume and not Literal Volume...?

So my only control of volume for the entire stereo sound would be behind the PA-2000?

you need another receiver with pre outs. I'm guessing that's what HK said?

Unfortunately, Yes I have to get another receiver. So now comes the million dollar question. Do I just bite the bullet and get the H/K3490 which comes with 120wpc stock and sell both the AVR130 and PA2000. Or do I get the next step up AVR that has pre-outs and keep my PA2000 and actaully get another one and mono amp my speakers.

Dammit! This money was for my SDA's!!!!

    deep breaths....deep breaths.....

Any ideas...? And if so, it'll have to be local. I'm not into the whole shipping thing. I just waited, literally ever a month for the PA2000 which I can't use...

Definitely look at used - I have a HK 3270 with pre-outs that I picked up for $25 that I use right now with my PA-2000 and a pair of LS-50s. If my wife wasn't using the other 3270 that I picked up, I would let you have it. Someone will offer something up cheap, just be patient. You will really like the PA-2000 amps.

Gonna get the HK3490. Thanks to everyone. You've been great. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I'm continually surprised by the generosity and brotherhood afforded me here. I'll fill you guys in with the details next week after I get a few certain things squared away (cannot explain everything yet). Thanks and keep on keepin' on...

    ...Polkin' that is!
