Ive been reading here and there about an ebay discount in different posts. So I dug around and found out a bit about it.

Its through MicroSoft's Live.com site. Sign up and search for whatever you're looking for and click on the ebay listing's. The item must be Buy it now and paid for by using Paypal. It was for 30% but is now 25%.

I have NOT done this yet, but I found the terms page that defines the eligibility guidelines and whatnot.

http://pages.ebay.com/cashbackoffer/terms.html?_trksid=m37

Again I have not used it, but I might now that it seems legit. :D

Maximum of $200 refund... fyi. Plus you have to wait 60 days to be able to get your money back. I tried it when it was at 30% and will get an extra $9 back in a couple months. Might buy a couple more things... just because! :)

So do you have to find the auction through LiveSearch or can you go to Ebay and make any purchase via buy it now/paypal to get the money back?

You must follow the link from Live Search to get to eBay, not go to eBay directly. You will not see the "Microsoft cashback" graphic on the top of the eBay page (next to the eBay logo and "Sign in" link) unless you follow the Live Search link to eBay in the search results page.

    pmoGleam25_150x23.gif

When you click on "Buy It Now", you will see the page with the item price and quantity available (if applicable) and a box for the quantity you want to buy. Underneath that, you should still see the "Microsoft cashback" graphic, and the "Continue" button.

When you click on "Continue" the "Review Your Order" page will show your purchase total, and the amount of cash back you would receive, with the statement "To get your Microsoft cashback, you must have a Microsoft cashback account and pay with your PayPal account. See conditions".

If you don't see the Microsoft graphic in eBay, you are not going to get your cashback reward.

It doesn't seem that way (I hate those schemes). Some info:

    - Frequently Asked Questions list: http://search.live.com/cashback/faq
    - The "Is it really free?" question answered: http://search.live.com/cashback/faq#faq2

I am assuming it is worth it to Microsoft to try to break the Google domination of the search market ...

yeah, i'm cool with it. got a great deal on the canon highdef camcorder from dell with buncha discounts. came out to $521 but i cancelled it since it won't even ship until the 12th of november. used this through ebay/paypal and got the same exact item for $435 for a smooth savings of $86 for doing nothing. just gotta wait for it to show up on my paypal account in a month or two, i suppose. also dell was out of stock so now i'll even get my camcorder earlier through the in-stock ebay seller.

This works like a rebate where you gotta wait a while before you get it. I used the MS Live Cashback and "saved" $118 on a camera I purchased.

How does Microsoft afford to do this? It must be costing them a gazillion bucks.

I needed an Xbox for a gift, and I HATE shopping. . so I tried this out at today's rate -30% off. I found one on ebay for 315 shipped, 60G Pro, with 2 games. . . and viola the rebate is already there, or here, which will transfer to PP after 60 days. Nice.

on thursday i used cashback through ebay for 25% cash back and it worked with an additional 10% coupon the ebay emailed me. and this time around, the cashback of $100 went into my paypal account IMMEDIATELY. ymmv.

hewlitt packard had 40% cashback with NO $200 limit like they have on ebay today for 12 hours. i was gonna get in on that but it was a nightmare as the servers were crashing the whole 12 hours. ended deciding i'll piece together a computer system based on the new intel i7 processor.

Danger boy, I just did this and it came up right for me.
You started at live search, right? Type in what you're looking to get. Usually the top listing is the one that will be the e-bay listings. It doesn't show the amount of discount once you leave live search but if I remember correctly it will show when you go through the payment process.
Check this link and see the gray box at the top of the page.

    Does this help?

I kept trying this link too, and finally got through around 10pm. When I did, it didn't show the discount, so I didn't proceed. I wish I knew that it wasn't capped at 200$ because I had my eye on the Elitebook 12" laptop. Mil-spec baby! Dam.

THe cap of $200 is what you can get back per transaction ($800 item = $200 back @ 25% or now $666.67 item = $200 back @ 30% and $1000 item = $200 back regardless of percentage).

I'm irked because I just spend around $600 and could have gotten even more back.......oh well.....items have already shipped out.

When you do the search from live.com, the discount will only go through if you complete the transaction within an hour. I don't know how accurate that is, but that's the guideline they put in the rules.

I wasn't aware that you could double up on the coupons.......so I didn't use the 10% coupon I had because I thought I read that the reason some of the cashback might not come through was because of double coupons.......who knows......

the cap for ebay per transaction is 200 bones. but that particular cashback for 12 hours through hewlitt/packard had no cap. but it crashed servers and only a few peeps got in on it. imagine (not myself) hundreds of people sitting at their computer ALL DAY with 5 screens open hitting the refresh button. it's no wonder their serves kept crashing.

danger, start at http://www.live.com/ and then type in what you are looking for, but don't be specific, be general. thing is, ms livesearch is a POS of a search engine. (sorry bill gates) once it comes up with something, hopefully it will come back with ebay as a top choice. look for it to say 30% savings. click on the ebay link. once you're in ebay you'll see the cashback 30% up at the top of every screen. oh yeah, it's back up to 30% vs 25% again.

anyway, once you're in ebay and got that green cashback ribbon up top, you are free to use the ebay search engine and then find what you want. through ebay it HAS TO BE BUY-IT-NOW and you HAVE TO PAY THROUGH PAYPAL. viola.

some items you have to wait up to 2 months to get the cashback credited to your paypal account. but like i said, i got to psp's and got the cashback INSTANTLY. ymmv.

Little upset at the coupon. I was considering a purchase and another 10 or 15% off would've closed the deal with the 30% MS money. So I gambled and bought it. Neither coupon worked for me. Ugh. If anyone else is buying something, try "CHOLIDAYSAVE15P" for 15% or "CHOLIDAYNOV2008" for 10%. Will not take both obviously but will do one and the MS money if you're lucky.
