Monitor 10a Issues

I posted this in the Vintage thread, but thought this thread would be more appropriate...

I have a set of Monitor 10a's that I've had for a couple years now. I've been happy has can be with them...problem is, I had them stored at a friend's house for the almost the past year, air conditioned, humidity controlled, etc....for whatever reason, one of them is not producing any bass. Mids and tweeter work just fine, but alas, no bass!!! Any ideas on what could be the cause of this, and more-so, how to fix it? I know they haven't been blasted anywhere near the point to which I would expect anything to blow.

Thanks in advance guys. I love all of my Polk's, whether they be in my HT or in my car, they're oustanding speakers, as you all know :-)

    Welcome to the forum

Did you check the PR no tears. Push in on the PR gently do all the mids move out?

Passive Radiator. The big driver on the bottom is not a speaker;)

Ah, I knew I was going to feel kind of dumb, I knew that! Just didn't put two and two together with the acronym. :p Anyway, no the mids do not move.

If you press gently on the mids do they move?

Check the other speaker. If they move out, then switch the Mids from the good speaker to the bad speaker and see if the problem follows. I would bet you have some frozen mids.

And maybe a scatching sound?? or a lot of resistance?

Ok, the mids do not move in the bad speaker. What exactly do frozen mids entail?

Sorry for the seemingly ignorant questions, I've just never had to do any work on these things thankfully, nor the 10b's upstairs.

Also, for my own edification and clarification, what exactly does having a 'frozen' speaker mean?

Let me know what model mids you have. I may have some depending on model(ie MW6500, MW6503...).

Paper ring on the outside, or rubber?

See this is where it gets weird....my good speaker has rubber, on the mids and passive radiator, and the bad one has paper on all three, figure that one out. These were 'supposed' to be a matched pair, but that makes me wonder

The black rubber is the good one, and the grey paper is the bad one....see attached photos

It looks like you have a mismatched set. Are both tweeters black? The Pr is tuned close enough that it doesn't matter much. I would still like to know what drivers are in the working one. This would help us to make them match again.

Yes both tweeters are black, sorry for the flash glare. I checked the good one, and it has 6500's in it too. I have no idea why one has paper and one has rubber. *confusion abounds*
