...those of you with home theater systems, for your equipment do you have line conditioners and UPSes or nothing at all?
Reason I ask is because I have seen some nice deals on heavy duty server rack UPS systems with line conditioners and all kinds of fun stuff like that. Basically, exactly what one would want to use for a home theater system requiring clean, managed power sources.
So anyway, I was wondering if the computer server UPSes are a good choice. Keep in mind that these servers are very sensitive to power fluctuations and they are usually supporting entire bidnesses so poor quality is a sure fire way to go out of bidness. I would imagine that they would be more than ample for home theater purposes.
Also, do home theater systems use the same kind of racks as computers? I know they used to be very similar but I don't know if things have changed.
SO with that said, if anyone is look, I have a 2000 VA, True Sine Wave, "Always On" Line Interactive UPS for a 2U rackmount here in this catalog at a very sweet price of 673. Buy 4 or more and teh price drops to 664 a piece. Anyway, it's a nice deal for a normally 900-1100 dollar piece of equipment.

If you are going to spend that much, buy the new Monster Power UPS system. It has one so many awards, it's ridiculous.
I think you can find them for under $1000. It got a product of the year award from Sterophile too.
If you go with a lesser priced one, there are many companies to choose from.

Monstercable makes great power/line surge protectors.I own a Monstercable HTS5000.I plan to upgrade to the avs2000 and the HTPS7000 for the ultimate in clean power. My theater will have a deadicated 20 amp circuit to power the rack.House system and theater system.Dan
My personal quest is to save to world of bad audio, one thread at a time. -
i have the older monster 3500 and it is nice it has a delayed on for your amps and has switched outlets for turning on your amps when you turn on your pre amp. lots of outlets and it has clean power something. i got that first befor i got any upgrades so i cant tell you if it helps. i 2 have a 20 amp lone for my ht componets and just my componets. installed it my self. the monster stuff is good but a little over priced. but it is good and i am not going to replace unless i draw more curent than it can handle.

No GREAT surprise but I'm the skeptic on this issue as well.
A friend has one of the Monster Power deals (HTR3000? maybe? I can't remember) and he has brought it here. I've got a couple AR surge protectors and a Rack Rider power conditioner.
In the mancave, which operates on it's own circuit, I notice absolutely no difference in using any of the three above products. In the HT rig, I've noticed a ever so slight change, slight enough to where I don't think anyone would notice unless you were really paying attention (and I'm not totally convinced I'm not imagining it) when I installed the Rack Rider. So, as far as power conditioning goes, ok, if you are on a pretty busy circuit, maybe, but the whole bang for buck thing comes into play. As far as surge protection, I doubt that the expensive models provide any more protection than a cheapie surge protector.

The line conditioners will almost always make a difference for a TV (especially with cable and satellite, not as much with DVD), but sound seems to depend on the system being used. I've seen them make a huge difference audibly, and sometimes no difference at all. Some components and speakers tend to be more sensitive than others.
However, ANY good system will have a difference with a good audio UPS setup. It doesn't matter if you are on a separate circuit or not, sometimes you won't be getting 120, and that's when you notice it most.
I have the Monster HTS3500, and love it. But I borrowed a friend's Monster UPS setup (can't remember the model #) for a while, and that's when I became convinced. Since then, I have installed a few systems with them, and they always help out.
