In what exactly? Intellectual broadcasting on television and the impact on 21st century society?

I agree. If they were going to make a horrible remake of that horrible series, which naturally captivated me as a youth and I thought Michael Knight was the bees knees....they should have used a Chevy.

After having seen the movie special last spring or whenever, I'm pretty sure I would have rather pummeled my head against hte desk for an hour than watch that garbage, no matter what car company is footing the bill for product placement.

    Dig the babes.

Dig KITT's red pulse audio being EXACTLY the Cylon sound from the original Battlestar Galactica.

    Lead actor = bazookabarf.

    Writing = horrible.

Couldn't even bring myself to watch it. From the commercials I saw it looked even more lame than the original.

Not to mention the whole mustang business. They couldn't have picked a more pathetic replacement.

I watched it. being a fan of the orignal, I'm not sure if I like this one. yes as most Tv shows the babes are hot. That doesn't make it a good show. The car is ok, I'm not a huge Mustang or Ford fan , I wish Pontiac would have made a new Trans am like the Camaro and they could have used that. I would be more into that.

I think the show is alittle off the wall. Overdone comes to mind. I will probably watch 1 or 2 more to see if it's worth it. So far I'm not really into it.

Transformers and Kitt. Alittle stupid .

Considering the abomination they created when they "brought back" the GTO, I'd be careful waht you wish for. Pontiac has shown quite clearly that they cannot design a good-looking car anymore.

Man, I still dont get why the GTO gets little love. that car is not exactly slow. I guess the look wasnt peoples cup of tea. truth be told I wouldnt mind owning one if I had to. to each his own though I giess. you aint alone in your feelings :D

as a black mustang owner, i was thrilled early on that a black Mustang was the new KITT. I saw the movie, and it was entertaining to a degree. saw the series coming and was originally enthused.........until I saw a picture of Kitt with what I will call the DOOKIEST air intake I ever sa (the 3 metal tube thing on the hood, which must be used in a pursuit mode or some ****)

if someone tried to put that on my car for free, they would get a first class crack in the jaw. that picture alone took away my motivation to watch the series.

    Why not just remake Manimal?
I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Why not just remake Manimal?

Because modern audiences cannot handle the complete and total uber-awesomness that is Manimal.

    That's why.

Besides, Chuick Norris decreed that Manimal should not ever be remade for fear of its awesomness getting out of control. I think he just really didn't want to open a gigantic can of whoop-**** and deprive the world of a whole pile of awesome awesomness.

Actually, no, I made that up. Could you tell? Manimal sucked gigantic donkey gonads.

Oh and this new Knight Rider? Yeah, the old one was campy and full of David hASSelhoff's horrendous acting and cheesey "look" but this new one? Yeah, saw about 10 minutes of the movie and turned it off. I've seen more entertaining piles of steaming poo come out my butt and had more fun watching them make a swirly in the bottom of the bowl as they go down the tubes.

I'd rank the new Knight Rider somewhere between shoving a glowing hot pick axe under each and every toe nail and wrapping my head in razor wire and beating it against a brick wall.

I'd rather be smashed in the face with a barbedwire baseball bat than watch the new show.

Performance-wise it was a fine car, but why stuff it into the body of a 1997 Grand Am? Ford with the newest Mustang and even Chevy with the Camaro have shown that you can bring back an old sports car, put modern performance in it but still make it look cool. Pontiac apparently decided that they'd rather take your grandmother's favorite car and just put a nasty engine in it, and hopefully people wouldn't care that it looked like a ****. Well, people cared. Especially since the GTOs of the late 60's were some of the more beautiful classic American cars in my opinion.

Um, that's what the original GTO was. It was based on a Pontiac Tempest and later the Tempsest/Le Mans and was essentially a mid-sized, mid-market car with a big honkin' engine and way too much power in it.

They tried the same formula today but the difference is that the 1964-1973 GTO was based on a car that already had good styling. The Holden Monaro is essentially a jellybean people mover. Like a Ford Taurus or Chevy Malibu.

If cars had ground-breaking styling and good looks now, performance variants would sell like hot cakes.

Look at the Chysler 300. It's a pig on roller skates. An abomination to the last 100 years of driving dynamics but man does it look sweet! It's a gorgeous car! The SRT-8 versions sell pretty well too.

Manimal really started to go down-hill once he started turning into platypuses, lemurs, and ****.

Fair enough, but that's kind of an important distinction. Also, following the same business model as you did more than 40 years ago is PROBABLY not the best idea.

What I'm saying is the idea works provided the car you are basing the hot rod on has some panache to start with.

A Tempest just looks pissed off even if it's got a 2 speed and a 6 cylinder under the hood. Makes a fire breating GTO all that much more menacing. The LeMans had smooth lines like the Chevelle on less "business" like and more soul to it. Made the GTO with body color bumpers and such just look down right sexy!

The new GTO didn't do that. It's a shame 'cause it really was a hot little ride. The Holden Monaro is the same car and gets great reviews around the world. It sells like hot cakes everywhere except the U.S. But when the car has stuff like the Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger, Ford Mustang, Nissan 350Z, various BMWs, Mercedes and even the Jaguars, you can't come to a cupcake convention sportin' a jelly bean. They'll tell you to get your pile of crap off the showroom floor and park in the lot with the rest of the spectators before you spoil the carpet.

Ford did the same thing. The Five Hundred was an awesome car! But it was styled like a series of gumdrops. It failed miserably so they renamed it what it should have been from the start, the Taurus, and it's doing better now. The Five Hundred could compete with amenities, build quality, comfort and so on with pretty much anything in it's vehicle segment except looks. But looks are what get you on the lot to begin with. If you have a GTO with an LS6 putting out 430 horses in a sedan you can live with everyday, nobody is going to care because it doesn't stick out. Flashy wheels do not a styling statement make.

I think the new GTO's suck ****. I drove one and yeah it goes but the car itself is ****. The trunk is terrible, the look of the car is aweful. Pontiac has always designed cars with a higher level of class, I don't know what happened here.

The Trans am could come back like the Camaro. They have always shared the same type of look then in 1982 , they basically where the same car with a different body soft of.

I was a fan of the Trans am since it's first Firebird hit the road in 67. When they stopped making them in 02, I was sad.

I dunno, I think its laughable that this 'family car' will beat similarly priced 'sports cars' from other manufacturers.

The trunk space is next to none b/c for whatever reason they decided to stuff the gas tank in there, but a friend of mine has one and I love it.

I guess I'd rather have a 'sleeper' that kicks ****...

I though it was funny that the comments on Yahoo news were "...the story lines are a little hokey, and acting is not very good, but..."

And how does that differ from the original? :D
