Damn, my SVS just died...

This isn't any different from paying a core charge to get aftermarket parts modded on a vehicle. It's business, plain and simple. I'm sure he'll live before, during and after the process.
But I do agree that he should live...at least long enough to buy my Marantz CDP when I upgrade."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche -
IMO, a warrantee claim and sending out a core to be modified are two different things.
Sure, but the physical receipt of the failed part helps the manufacturer determine the root cause, if it exists, and act accordingly. This is pretty important in manufacturing and the difference between a simple work order and a 100K unit recall.
Automakers rings a bell? Should they send you a loaner? I know I'm being silly but hey man....it's called business and they have the right to choose how they handle it. There's no right or wrong, just perception of result.
I get offline complaints about Verizon from time to time. My stock answer is complain, since that's what generates the ticket. They don't, and they never get the problem fixed. See a pattern?CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint. -
I agree with you in part, Mike, esp. about the return shipping, but it should not be that bad. And from their point of view, they don't know how or why it failed until they look at it, or even if it failed at all?
So they charge you for a new one, and credit you back once you return the defective unit back to them. I guess that's how it has to be. And I did have the option of sending the bad one back first, but I figured the other way will be faster. Besides, once I get the new one, I will have a perfect shipping container in which to send the old one back. So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?

I'll ship mine to you for 75.00 and then charge you another 75.00 when I pick it up. So the total weekend rental fee is $150.00.
I'm going to have to ask for a $1000.00 security deposit refundable after 365 days. I need to be sure you won't ruin mine too. -
Harry,
Do you have a DMM to get a reading of the resistance on the dead driver? I'm still interested as to what's going on with the sub.polkaudio RT35 Bookshelves

I understand that sometimes a company/manufacture will need to examine the item in question to to properly diagnose the problem, which can save time and money on both ends. But in Polr's case, it's not like he's diagnosing a bad PCM or crank sensor in his living room. In his case, only a few troubleshooting steps are needed."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche -
Can you take pics of the failed driver? I'm interested as to what went wrong...Harry,

Yep, my meter shows an open circuit. I've pretty much chalked this up to **** happens.
I will post when I get the replacement driver. So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?

OK, got the replacement driver from UPS today, exactly when it was supposed to arrive.
Four days from order confimation to my door; I can live with that.
Now all I have to do is re-assemble, re-calibrate, re-alize why I bought it in the first place!
BTW, in case anyone's interested, the driver weighs 19.2 lbs.So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?

Did you take a picture?"He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche

Whew, finally back in biz in the LFE Dept.!
Seems that the amp was OK after all, as I'm getting full output across both drivers .
Took some pix of the amp (removed) as well as the inside of the enclosure. Given the weight of the two drivers with the amp, I'd say they total about 50lbs.; that means the enclosure comes in at about 75lbs.
SVS gets high marks both for their efficiency and attention to details, as they supplied a very detailed set of instructions for re-assembly, in addition to a new set of crimp-on terminals. So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?
