... and I have no idea why.
I just emailed SVS' cust. svc., described what happened (pretty much nothing),
now I'm waiting for a response from them. Stay tuned.
So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?

Check the circuit breaker if it's on a different circuit. If that ain't it, we'll see if their customer service is on par with Polks CS.

Just some quick fill-in info, it's an SVS PB12-NSD/2, purchased in May '07.

Sub worked fine yesterday (watched some WOTW...again;), but with the volume on my AVR set to -20db, nothing major, IMO). Circuit OK, fuse OK too.

Went to watch another DVD today, and nothing at all. The green LED comes on (always set to Auto, BTW), just no output. Settings on sub as follows> Gain set to about 10 O'clock, Auto-on enabled, Subsonic filter at 25Hz (no plugs used), Crossover disabled, Phase at 0.
Settings on Denon AVR> Sub set to LFE +Main, crossed at 80Hz, all speakers set to small.

Am I hearing the echoes of "Taps " in the distance?

Does the speaker move or is it frozen?

Have you tried powering it all the way down unplugging it and starting over?

    Sorry for your Loss.

    There are two cones.

Harry, push on each one to make sure they're not frozen. I'm betting it's the amp though.

put your fingeracross the end of the rca cable that is pluged in to the dennon that leads to the sub. if it makes noise it is your dennon not working.

OK, quick update, got an email from SVS, gave me some detailed instructions on how to
proceed from here. Pretty fast response time too, IMO. So far, so good.

I didn't try that, but I did hook up a piece of speaker wire from my right main to the inputs on the sub, still nothing.

I am getting the feeling that the amp is toast, though.

It's supposed to be, per their website.

This was purchased from SVS in May '07 (b-stock, but still covered).

They have been excellent with everything so far, I don't see any problems here.

you did turn the crossover on the amp to its lowest setting when you did that right? if the crossover setting on the amp is higher than your recievers setting, it is concievable that the sub would play nothing when you hooked up the speaker wire.

I would take the rca out for the mains and go right into the sub and see if it plays. this would immediatly rule out any wierd reciever setting that could be causing this (part of me says if you have that green light on the amp, it shouldnt be fried.

maybe pop the criver and see if a speaker wire from the amp to the speaker popped off (although that happenning on 2 drivers might be a stretch, still gotta rule it out.)

OK, so far, so bad... it looks like one of the drivers is n/g?

After flipping the thing over (and wearing out the battery on my cordless driver taking the thing apart), one of the drivers works OK, the other seems dead. Looks fine, all connections were solid, just no sound out of it.
I am in agreement with you OSkiG, I do not believe the amp is fried after all, since the drivers are wired in series; if one dies they both die. Maybe that's to protect the other driver or the amp itself?

Well, I sent the above info off to SVS' CS Dept., now just waiting to see what to do.

well, if the driver dies the right way, pos or neg signal wont go to driver number 2, therefore driver 2 = no sound right along with driver # 1.

kinda makes it an easy fix....jjst hinges on the hopes SVS will give you the driver gratis as opposed to paying for it. other than that......she'll be rumbling your **** soon either way :)

What is the turn around time for getting the drivers back?

Do you need mine since it's just sitting in a box right now?

    Let me know.

Good question, probably a few days, I would think.

Nah, it's all good. Moving mine around was plenty for me :D (and yours is heavier!!)

    OK, here's the deal.
Got an email back from SVS CS this afternoon, they are going to replace the defective
    driver under warranty.

I had the option of sending the defective one back first, or paying for a new one to be shipped to me right away, then sending back the bad one for a 100% credit ( I chose the latter).
Either way, I have to pay for shipping the woofer back to them, fair enough.

It's strange, because I wasn't really driving the thing too hard that day, and it's not like it just cut out while it was playing.

At any rate, I think they did an excellent job responding to my emails, and for providing
detailed instructions on how to proceed; I am not in the least bit surprised by this.
We shall see how their shipping dept. is soon ;).

Oh, and thanks for the help everyone!

That's pretty lame. Whatever happened to shipping a new one first so you don't have to wait? Prepaid return shipping would have been nice too.

Most companies require you to ship back the defective part before they ship out a new one. Well, at least that's been my experience with Palm and HP products.

This isn't any different from paying a core charge to get aftermarket parts modded on a vehicle. It's business, plain and simple. I'm sure he'll live before, during and after the process.
