HD Video Projector verus HDTV ?

I have been toying with the concept of setting up a Video Projector, verus going the HDTV flat screen route.
I looked at the InFocus LP820 Video Projector 3200
3200 lumins is a very bright projector and should be able to work well, even in a well lit room.
Had anyone gone this route?
I will give you the HDTV will have a clearer picture as far as HD quality.
But size does matters and this would be a less expensive way to achieve a 60" to 70" screen size, tho I have not yet work out the setup logistics yet.
I have considered installing a 2" chase pipe from the projector position to the TV FIOS box & Sound equipment area, to pull cables, etc.
I have seen some wall screen paint but I have no idea of its effectiveness? anyone know?
Has anyone gone this route?
I would love to hear from some people using this type of Video viewer?

see system showcase and view my setup. Most newer projectors these days will give you a plasma like picture with ease. As for screen check out Carada or Elite. Both are of excellent build quality and inexpensive.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!

Very nice setup ...... sweet HT
How many ansi lumens?
I am doing more of a generall entertainment room and at times natural daylight or light may be on ..
so I was concluding at least 2500 lumens to achieve a good picture?

for something that bright youre going to spend allot of coin, the JVC does around 700-800 lumens easy and is very bright. Each unit is different so that number varies. If youre going to have ambient light you may want to invest in a Da-lite Hi Power Screen. Im not sure where you came up with 2500 lumens but theres nothing out there can give you that unless youre talking upwards of 10k. If you want a really good PJ and need bright then I suggest you look at the Epson 1080UB or the Panasonic 2000U and pair one of those with a Hi-Power screen.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!

You will never get the quality of a LCD TV thru a projector, but for the price it's your best bet for watching movies and wanting a very big screen. I have a Infocus projector 720p and for the money it's great. I got the projector for about$1500 and it came with a free 110" motorized screen and I'm happy with it. When the guys are over we play madden on it with the lights on in the room without any problems.

Survey says.........................................WRONG! Not sure where you've been but with allot of the newer pjs its like watching a huge LCD, plasma. If youre using a cheap, crappy screen youre right, you wont get the PQ of an LCD. The end.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!

I have seen a lot of units not all that expensive
We also use a 3400 lumen in our church that is bright with all the lights on, older and not HD.

The native resolution is not HDTV. Mine is HD compatible, but only 480;)
BenPlease. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.

As suspected youre confusing an office PJ for a home theater PJ. The lumen output will be greatly reduced once calibrated as well.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!

Sorry, I guess I am showing my ignorance on Projectors.
So to get it correct .....
Ansi Lumens are different on HD Projectors??
Here is a cheap New 1200 lumen HD unit .........

I do realize these are very cheap units, but there seems to be a lot out there .... that will not need a 2nd mortgage.

Have you ever seen them side by side a projectors colors isn't nearly as deep as a LCD . The picture is no way near the picture of a top LCD. -
I have a JVC HD1 on a 126inch screen, and the colors are right on par with my Sony Bravias bro. If you want to do a comparison, check out Best buy Magnolia, they normally have a Sonny VW50/60 model on a stewart screen. Ask for a demo, I can assure you that you'll be impressed. Just telling you todays projectors are outstanding performers.
OK guys, I'll check back later, Im bound for the USA again, flight leaving in 3hrs.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!

I've seen many Blu Ray movies on Hd projectors. Every bit as amazing as LCD or Plasma. (at over 100 inches too)HT-- Denon avr-2808ci,Emotiva UPA-1s, RTi 10's, CSi A6, ERD-1 surrounds, Vizio P50, Yamaha yst-sw300, DVR hr21, 40g PS3, APC-h15
Downstairs-- Denon avr-3300,Emotiva UPA-2, Toshiba 50" rear projection, Denon 2200 sacd, Emotiva ERM-1s, small Yamaha sub -
I found the video portion of HT to be alot like the audio portion. If you want to be immersed in the experience go big, if not watch and listen on whatever you want.
I tell those not in the know, if you want the best 60 inch or under picture, and you casually watch with the lights on, go TV. If you want the best 120 inch picture, and you don't mind controlling some light it has to be PJ. It doesn't get much easier than that. Shooting anything close to 60 inches with a PJ is a waste. BTW, TVs are measured diagonal, PJ screens measure horizontal.
Personally I don't think watching anything on a TV qualifies as a theater experience in my book, being a PJ owner for over 5 years now.
I think the real debate is DLP or LCD in either format, but you didn't ask that question.....HT Optoma HD25 LV on 80" DIY Screen, Anthem MRX 300 Receiver, Pioneer Elite BDP 51FD Polk CS350LS, Polk SDA1C, Polk FX300, Polk RT55, Dual EBS Adire Shiva 320watt tuned to 17hz, ICs-DIY Twisted Prs, Speaker-Raymond Cable
