Ok the real high end Yamaha has a USB port to plug in your thumb drive with tunes on it.
Why can't someone make a accessory to plug into any receiver to do this??
Shouldn't hafta spend $1500+ to get this feature IMHO.
EX: Yamaha RX-V2700

Im not aware of any commercial units but it could be done rather cheaply and I think there would likely be a big market for such a device.I have one that will take USB and output on headphones. With a simple mod it could be hooked up to an AUX in on a preamp or reciever.Testing

Yeah mine has a nice place to plug in a 1/4 stereo patch cord from my Palm TX under AUX. Works great!!
One of only a coupla models that have this feature.
Be nice to adapt a USB do dad like you hook into the computer to plug there to use a USB thumb drive.

So why not plug in an external Hard Drive with 400 Gigs of music?*
I know my DVD player has a USB outlet, but it's only v1.1 USB, which is too slow to be much use.
*assuming you've got 400 gigs of music. -

Ahhh that might come into play when adapting!
Might need a processor inside unit to convert?
I never thought of that.

I think that's exactly the reason no do-dad exists. I would think it would need a menu system or modification of the existing set-up menu. The price is coming down on receivers with USB input. I played around with the Pioneer 1018 (around $450) a few weeks ago and it has the USB jack and you can plug a USB hard drive into it also. Currently I'm using an external USB to Optical sound card (converter) on a laptop to send music from my PC library to my Outlaw Pre/Pro so there are a few gadgets out there - maybe just not the exact one you need.Sony 60'' SXRD 1080p

The replacement to the Marantz SA-8001 SACD/CDP has a USB input also. I'm curious if it's only for thumb driver or if it could be hooked up to a PC also."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. Ding ding! On the receivers with this built in, the receiver itself does the decoding of the MP3s or whatever music and plays them. If it's not built into the receiver, your doo-dad has to do this same decoding, which will require a processor of some sort, not to mention some interface so you can choose / skip songs (again, this is built into the receiver on models that have USB).If you will it, dude, it is no dream.
