Bi-Wiring clarification needed

I purchased some RTi8's today and I need some clarification on biwiring. I have a Yamaha HTR-5860 that these speakers will connect to. I understand that 2 pairs of speaker wire will be going to each speaker, but the end that goes into the receiver is where I need clarification. Do both of the speaker wires from the speaker (2 + and 2 -) go into one channel? For example, if it's the right speaker, will the 2 + cables go into the single right + terminal and same as the left channel? Basically are you combining the cables from the speakers and putting 2 cables into a single terminal? Is this safe with all receivers?

Thank you for the warm welcome. I don't have any additional wires right now, but does it matter what kind I get? Do you have any cheap recommendations? By the way, I'm replacing my Athena AS-F2 with the RTi8. I wonder how much improvement I will hear? I'm also getting the CSi3 to match the RTi8.

For cheap wires I recommend AudioQuest type4's. You can buy these used pretty cheap. Monster is over rated over priced. Signal cables are a good choice also. One good set of wires is better than two cheap sets. As for the Athena's I have never heard them.

Take your time, and get a good deal. You can also buy AQ type4 new at $4 a foot. If you are looking for super cheap wire check out WalMart in the automotive section. Not the electronics, but the automotive section for the 14 ga wire.

I was actually thinking about getting regular 12 AWG or 10 AWG speaker wires from monoprice.com. Is it okay to use 2 pairs of regular speaker wires instead of premade bi-wire cables? The TYPE4 cables look really nice, but I noticed that there are banana plugs on the ends. I guess I would have to modify one end (the end that goes into the receiver) since the receiver post cannot accommodate 2 sets of banana plugs.

Monoprice is a good place to shop. You can use two cables no problem if you want, but you would be better off with one set of nice cables. I saw you were in GA. I am up in Conyers. If you ever want to make the trip, or are in the area you are more than welcome to stop by.

Welcome to the forum Sang. I just built some bi-wire sets, and Canare 4S11 does a great job; price is just above $1 a foot. My cables were set up banana to bi-banana. The wire is available online at Blue Jeans Cable. Parts express has some serviceable boots for 2-lead, and 4 leads cables. 11 mm boots work nice on this type of Canare cable.

So if I want to set up bi-wiring to my front speakers, should I run the wires from my psw505 to my rti a1 speakers or from the receiver? do you run both the positive wires from the same output, to different inputs?

I believe you have to place two separate orders for that to work.

from your receiver or amp. twist both positives together and both negatives together and connect them at the receiver/amp, then on the speaker side, one positve and one negative to each respective terminals set (2 sets per speaker).

Help a color blind guy out. Looks like I am seeing red, pink, white,&grey or clear inside canare insulation. Simple question. What color wire goes to what binding post. Speakers have 4 binding posts. Two blacks and 2 reds. Need to know what color wire goes to what binding post. Thanks
