Just wondering what we're in for with hurricane ike. Will it bust out my windows or does it take flying debris to do that.

We are still without power here at the office, but a good banning makes me feel better.

Be mindful of garage door... not much you can do about it but if not reinforced I consider placing a 2x4 at a 45 degree angle to floor to support door from blowing in. If you looked at past storm damage it always seemed it was Garage door then far wall in to house, windows blown out, roof gone.
Good luck. I hate them :(

Check out the Secure Door brace for your garage door. I had one installed for $250. You will 2 of them for a 2 car garage. http://www.securedoor.com/

I ended up putting shutters across my garage door. The brace is good too, but the shutters qualify you for a Huge insurance discount, if used with impact windows or shutters.

I used to work at Honolulu Airport when Hurricane Iwa struck Hawaii in 1982. The gates at the airport had one inch plate glass which shattered at the peak of the hurricane. When the eye passed over, it was eerily calm. Went stupidly into the lobby with some coworkers and all was quiet. Then the winds started to pick up and it picked us up and threw all of us around. Luckily none were injured. From what I understand, the winds averaged 100mph with gusts of 120mph.

I did not even want to remember Hurriocane Iniki with its 140mph winds....
