Actually I dont truly wish any harm on anyone even the few I cant get along with. It's all in jest.

Well, I just pulled off the impossible by doing a double-blind comparison all by myself, purely by virtue of the fact that I completely and stupidly forgot what I did last. I guess that getting old does have its advantages after all :D

I don't have the same ISP or even telco providor. This town is split at Mason Road and he is "over there". I have fiber to the house and a pretty good transfer rate. Over there, not so much. Could even explain why it apears he thinks a little slower than the rest of us...

Thanks. The storm surge on the coast is going to be hell. It's going right over houston but has shifted enough to the east that much of houston will be on the clean side. The blessing is that it may only be a cat 2 with winds for most of houston < 100 mph.

I've experienced it along the front range of Colorado. The wind comes rushing down Boulder canyon and over the Flatiron peaks that stand against the city of Boulder. It's amazing how powerful it can be. I've watched a roof or two get blown off in just one gust.

For this storm - if you don't get the surge. It shouldn't be much of a biggie. Especially if you have a newish house as TX should have some good standards for windload (hurricane clips on the roof, reinforced garage doors, etc).

As someone else posted, if the window is open, leave it that way. But I would suggest closing everything up. Bring anything not secured to the ground inside. Get your cars in the garage. You should only lose windows due to flying debris, so again, look around your house and try to minimize what can take flight. Expect to lose some shingles and tree limbs. Your house will be covered in leaves.

Being inland some, your worry will be tornados. In most hurricances it is the tornados that are thrown off that destroy things. A storm this big (while not overly strong) will spawn tons of tornados.

The 100mph is maximum sustained winds, gusts will be higher. But with a Cat 2 storm, unless your house is poorly built, you worry about surge and tornados. Also watch your eletronics, your power will be highly unreliable until it goes out. You will lose power at some point.

Probably only funny if it's not your house and family in the path of the hurricane. I'm sure the folks lined up by Ike are seriously scared $hitless. Chris

Two great things about the US. 1) You have the right to decide your own destiny and the freedom to do mostly as you like. 2) When that freedom isn't combined with intelligence, the rest of us tax payers will pay to bail your dumb **** out.

It's those in TX that truly have no means to escape the storms path that I feel sorry for. May God watch over them.

Egh, I'm pretty sure it'll be alright. I've been in worse hurricanes worried about stuff in worst shape than that. I'm a big fan of overkill and stuff like that will bother me. I'll fix it tomorrow, but it will be after the brunt of the storm. Hopefully it'll be alright, I'm pretty sure it'll be fine.

Laptop is getting unplugged in a few minutes, everything else already off.

Been threw Hurricane Frederick in Pensacola. The worst place to be is the east side of the Hurricane. I was lucky, the eye went straight over us, North to South. TX is getting it East to East was which is bad. You can look at Ivan and what the West side did to the bridges. Knock them down. Every body looked at what happened to New Orleans but forgot how it flattened Mississippi.

Good Luck and prayer sent for them in it's path,

Yea, I'm on the west side. The worst is over here, there will be some thunderstorms later tonight, but nothing but rain and wind right now. Shed is fine and will be fine, the wind is dying down, less than 40 mph sustained winds now. A lot of Houston is out of power and some parts will be out for up to 2 weeks. Gives some of you some hope :)

As a resident of Florida, I've experienced a number of hurricanes. A few years back (2004), we had three come through my area within a few weeks of each other. It was pretty intense.

I was successfully able to have a bbq during the weakest of the three. We strapped the grill to the back patio, almost flush against the back doors for "support".... but it just so happened that our support also cooked burgers! There was just enough room to crack open the door, stick out a spatula, and flip some meat. In retrospect, I'm surprised I didn't burn down the house.

There's something extra delicious about a hurricane burger. Take that mother nature!

    LOL love the BBQ story.

And yes those 3 hurricanes SUCKED ;)

I woke up in the morning after Charley and stated to my neighbor I never want to go through that again, 3 weeks later again, 2 weeks after that again.

We all can laugh about that year now. :D
