Just announced. This years Alaska Permanent Fund Dividend check will be $2069. In additon, a one time only "resource rebate" check of $1200 will be added to it for a total of $3269. I figure thisd might get more national attention this year given our governors recent arrival into the spotlight. :)

Well I guess you could thank her but she cant really take any credit for the pfd. Maybe some credit for the rebate end of it though.

The PFD was 1976. It is a permanent share or dividend. It's a great precedent that would ensure that some of the high cost of living in Alaska be offset by a share in the revenue of the North Slope. The 1200 One time credit was just that, a one time payment in exchange for allowing outside interests to exploit natural Alaskan resources, at tax frozen rates. There is no permanent fund for this, just a payoff prior to the giveaway. Since there is a precedent which entitles residents a share does this credit seem like good deal? Why did the credit get paid out so quickly?

It's your acceptance of a deal that the state did not want to incorporate into the permanent fund . . so you got paid -once, quickly and preemptively.

"The deal would have frozen oil taxes for 30 years and gas taxes for up to 45 years for the three major oil companies, but it did not guarantee a pipeline would get built.

The Legislature would not vote on it because many members believed it was too much of a giveaway to the energy industry, about US$10 billion over the lifetime of the deal."
It's also subsidized " with up to US$500 million in state seed money."

    It's a payoff for a giveaway.

Am I missing something? Why aren't Alaska citizens complaining?

We have, but the ones like me who do see it for what it is are the minority. At the same time, I am the worst possible hypocrite because I'm still going to collect my money like everyone else.

I don't blame you one bit, I wouldn't like it, but I'd cash it. You aren't a hypocrite if you have no choice in the matter. It's a dirty, dirty, business. :D
I'd rant on, but I don't want to muck up or kill your thread.
