No, I don't need the long drive. Currently I'm running JBL in my HT area and I will eventually switch the these older Polks. There are couple of good deals up in my area right now for a pair of Audio SDA 1's ($600, look like the "C" model with the tweeters stacked in the center) and a pair of AUDIO SDA-1.2TL's ($1800). Short on funds right now, so I'll save for the future and go that route.

    Sniffle! :(

I just sold my pair of 10's to a buddy of mine for $100 each.
LNIB....yeah I even still had the original boxes for em.
I bought em out of the local paper about 8yrs ago for $175 for the pair.

I moved from a rented house with a decent living room to my own house with a tiny living room. Just no place to put em.
Thus I decided after living here for 3yrs to part with em after they had been stored in their boxes all this time.

No matter what you paid for em....IIRC in the day (1987?) they were $750 each.
I can tell ya they will rock your world!!!
Best speakers I ever had....probably miles behind today's technology.
But I bet they can still hold their own against many out there today.

The 10's came today and I unpacked them. I noticed that they have a soft dome tweeter. Is the upgrade for this the silver dome tweeter? Or, am I good for now and not to worry about quality. And, what upgrades can I do to make these better (having never done any of this before, but would like to try)?

Congrats on your 'new' 10's, from another Seattle-area Polk fan. Good that they arrived safely.

The 1.2tl's you are looking at up in Edmonds are a decent set. I was over at his place a little over a year ago; I bought his SDA-1C's. I told him if he ever wanted to sell the 1.2tl's, just give me a call, and the sale was assured. However, I never got the call, and have since gotten the 2.3tl's anyway- which I prefer because of the smaller size.

Not to hijack but to further the question of upgrades. Ben & Jon or anyone, would you recommend caps and Mills for 85' 10B (just brought out of storage and given their own listening room) and for newly acquired 3.1TLs and for all vintage Polks?

With out a doubt. The 3.1's would be real cheap to get a lot of performance out of seeing it is a single tweeter model.

Hooked up the Monitor 10's and "my god" what a difference over my JBL E90's! These 10's are incredible. I have a pair of MBM-12's with the mains and am running the mains small. Changed the mains to large with the 10's and the mid bass was equal to the MBM's output. However the 10's were too boomy for the room and the MBM's have a bass EQ (Anti Mode 8033 on the sub cable) so they sound real good. Just to state that the 10's can output equal to a MBM setup but there isn't anyway to control the bass via an EQ. Anyway, I'm a happy man. As far as upgrading, is there a thread on this forum on upgrading the 10's? I would need instructions on how to do it.

There are threads all over the place. Basically you take out your XO's and read the value on the components. Most likely you will have 2 12 uf caps, and 2 33-36uf caps, and a few resistors. Super easy to do on the 10's if you can solder. Just do one at a time.

Just snagged a second set of Monitor 10's on ebay tonite. They are 10B's and are out of Calif. Got them for 125 + shipping of 75 for $200. Just love the first set and have them as mains and this set I'll use for surrounds. I'll sell off the Infinitiy ES250's.

Any issues with flipping a Monitor 10 and stacking it on top of another (top to top) so as to have the tweets in the middle with the mids above and below? Kinda like an array. I know that some people have done this with other speakers and since I have 2 sets of the monitor 10's, I thought that I would try it.

Clean them both up, sell them, and get those SDA1c's;)
I have stacked speakers before. Well you know to keep the tweeters together, but I am not a big fan of stacking speakers. YMMV

Bill, welcome to the world of vintage Polk. I agree take your time and find a decent set of SDAs. You'll be apt to stand pat awhile ;).

For now I'll keep the 10's and use them with my setup. I just scored in the last minute and 53 seconds on ebay a Polk cs-350 center speaker. It will go with a set of the monitor 10's for the front stage. I had bid on it earlier and someone outbid me with 2 minutes left to go. Lucky I checked it and was able to get a higher bid in, !50 + 25 ship for $175 total. Now I'll have set of JBL e90's and esc35 center to sell.

Congrats on your Mon10A speakers Bsoko2 - the peerless tweeter is a great tweeter - but because of this I would not recommend using them stacked as the 10Bs you got are probably a Polk tweeter - SL2000? and that is much brighter......it is not a bad tweeter to have in your surrounds though, until you get the chance to upgrade to the RDO-194 tweeter.

I liked the RTA 11Ts better, but didn't hear them in the same rig/room. 10s, I'd think, would have a wider and deeper sounstage, but the 11s are full range with excellent bass response and a detailed midrange/treble. Might want to swapout the tweets though.

In my new arrangement - not the one pictured in the showcase - the speakers are (center to center) 96" apart and I sit 132" away - the soundstage is wide enough for 3 people sitting on the couch to enjoy the soundstage. - unfortunately - I never herd the RTA-11Ts to make a comparison.

Got a 10B today and have one of the mid speakers out. Speaker has no movement (vibration on rubber) on bass or anything else. Where can I get a replacement and how much?

To add to the above: When you push on any speaker in the cabinet, they move in and out. The bad speaker doesn't move at all, it's like it is frozen?

Polk wants $60 for a speaker? After market speakers from PE go for alot cheaper than that. Why can't one of those be used instead of Polk?
