when playing my ps3 there is a loud hiss that comes from all channels along with a slight humm from the sub. The noise is there when im watching regular cable but i have to turn the volume above 0 to notice it. Iv also noticed that when im watching a movie on the ps3 for when there is a break in the audio signal, like a pause between a preview and the menu screen the noise goes away during that transition. The noise increases and decreases along with the volume. My setup is as follows
Sony 40" w series 1080/24p
Sony 3300es
LS15's
LSIC
LSIFX
PSW1000
PS3 80g
Panamax M5100-PM
My ps3 is hooked up via hdmi.
Please help, the noise is unbarable when watching movies at refrence level and i have to turn down the receiver so i do not notice the noise.

I think most any system when cranked up will emit some kind of hum or hiss.. i know all of my three systems sure do.. it's not loud enough to be annoying, but it's there when there is no source playing.. and also when there is a source playing, but the audio overrides the hum/hiss.

so what i'm saying is the hiss is more than likely coming from your source and not your speakers. the speakers are just making it audible.

could it possibly be because i am underpowering my speakers, my receiver only does 100watts per ch

unscrew the coax cable coming from the wall and going into the cable box. I had this issue with my cable. it would hiss throughout my system. I had to ground the cable splitter and then it went away.

ok i tried that also and that did not work, its not a cable box that im using by the way its just cable from the wall

ok i think i have found the culprit. I have my front speakers bi-amped using the rear surrounds, when i turn the bi amp option the hiss pretty much goes away, but there is still a quiet hiss, nothing like before though

just how loud is this hiss? what i'm talking about it pretty minor hissing.. your's sounds much louder..

disconnect all but your front speakers. then see if the hiss is still there.. what you want to try and to is eliminate one thing in your system at a time.. turn the system back on. and see if the hiss is still there. by eliminating things.. you should be able to tell where the hiss is coming from.

its a really loud hiss when im playing at refrence level, i didnt notice any hiss when i was using my old speakers (low end polks) with the same setup. Thats why i was thinking that maybe its because i was underpowering my speakers
