Well, technically not a complete year because labor day 07 was on September 3...but I'm celebrating anyway.

Do I feel better? Hell yes.
Do I miss it? Hell YES.

For those who smoke and want to quit: If I could do it, you can do it. I smoked for over 30 years and I never thought I'd quit.

For those who smoke and don't feel like quitting: enjoy it!!

Congrats!!! I know just how hard it is. I ave been smoke free since June 29, 2007. I used that new pill out that block your nicotine receptors in your brain. Was actually easier than I thought it would be. I smoked from 16 years old till 51 years old.

Do I feel better, Hell Yes!
Do I miss them, Not as much now. There are times though.

Now im working on the weight. I had a Lap Band but in on Apr 28, 2008 I was at 354lbs now im 297lbs.

I tell you what. When I quit smoking I put on 20lbs.

I used nicotine lozenges (Commit) for four months; when I quit that I had to have something in my mouth so I used gum (normal) for a couple more months.

This is the second time I try to quit. I quit for six months in 2005, and one day I thought I could have just one and tested myself...wrong. I started smoking more than before.

But if I knew now that I could have just a couple a day, I would do it.

With the pill you you smoke while using it for the first week then go cold turkey. I switched to Carlton ciggs about 6 months before quitting. After the first week you take the pill for two months. It costs like 100.00 a month but hell I was payin more than that for smokes.

I replaced the nicotine habit for a food habit. Doc said the food was going to kill me also but at a much slower pace.

Both of these changes really improved my stamina during Bass fishing tournaments. Being out on a lake at 106 degrees for 8 hours can be tough :)

Money saved not buying smokes 120.00/month
Money saved not eating as much 100.00+/month
Better health and feeling better PRICELESS!

Congrats on your achievement Ricardo. I know from friends experiences how tough it can be. One went with hypnosis to quit, after other attempts failed. A friends wife on the West coast recently quit cold turkey after 20 years. No patch, no gum. Her hubby said him and the kids just steered clear of her for a month....

excellent Ricardo, you have made it, the one year date is a real benchmark. As far as the urges they do get much easier to control, I stopped 17 years ago and know that I am still just a puff away from being a smoker, every once in a while I have a dream where I smoke like a chimney, tough chemicals in those cigs. I almost smoked a cigar at the Polkfest last year but thought better of it at the last moment.

For those on the fence with this if you quit you are not giving up anything worthwhile.
