Things noticed with new speaker wire

I've noticed a few things with my new wire (belden 12ga) and my old wire (monster cable xp).

With Belden on left channel and XP on right channel:

Backup singer in right channel developed a lisp
Guitarist in right channel missed an entire riff
Debate on NPR had affirmative speaker in left channel and was very articulate...Negative speaker in right channel could only say, "I know you are, but what am I..."

Belden on both channels

My music plays 5% faster without the restriction of the XP wire
Sound in porno movies now matches the on-screen action perfectly!
The earlier mentioned backup singer lost her lisp
NPR debate problem was resolved and quickly went over my head
I'm sure I can hear Marianne Faithfull draw on her cigarrette between lines
Madona still can't sing (guess it wasn't the wire)
Damn, that cow bell Motley Crue uses just sounds so...so...so...cow bell like

Can't wait to hear what differences there are with the AQ wire!

Seriously, though... I am enjoying my new wire. Let's hope the next step up is equally enjoyable.

:D

Wire is fun. Trying to hear the differences between them is hard but fun. Once you figure out the difference, it's hard not to hear it every time you switch out a wire.

I took the monster cable xp and carefully pulled it apart. I removed the outer covering, inner plastic covering, fiber filler and solid plastic center core. Once this was done, I measured it. The damn stuff is about 19ga! I know they don't note the gauge on packaging and such, but the stuff is sold most places as 16ga wire. That's a huge difference. I'm glad I got it for free. I don't mind tossing it out.

I used the darn stuff on my surrounds as well. They're LS/FX surrounds (8 ohm) and have a run of 36' each. That's a pretty long run for 19ga wire. Think I'm going to replace it with some 14ga similar to the Belden stuff.

Cable make a difference in most all but the following circumstances.

The music is in your head.

You happen to be at a live acoustic performance

You're listening to a boom box w/internal speakers

    You're not listening to anything

Now for most everything else music related, cables matter. The degree differs per person, that's for sure. For me it was a wire of too small gauge for the distance I was running. So for me, at this point in time, cables made a very noticable difference and I can only speak in regards to that. In the future I plan on trying different cables and will be able to comment more at that time.

This thread was started in hopes of having a few laughs, so if anyone wants to turn it into something else, let's hope all replies other than for laughs are ignored.

I I don't think I ever said I didn't believe wire made a difference. It turned out the wire I was given (and using) wasn't the gauge I was told and I started to really notice things (narrowed sound stage, having to turn it up more to get the same level, etc.). Now I'm using the right gauge and am happy with the results. Beyond the right gauge, it seems more trial and error finding the right cable to give additional sonic improvement.

Will I go the next step, only time will tell. I'm hoping the Sonicap and Mills upgrade to my XOs next week will keep me happy for some time to come. :)
