Has anyone used multiple LSi9's as fronts?
I was thinking of trying this as opposed to a just pair of LSi15's.
Are there any glaring reasons why this would be a bad idea (assuming they will be supplied with adequate amplification)?
What would be best arrangement to use? Stacked or something else?

Stacking is NEVER good. This was just covered about a 1-1.5 months ago."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche

I just wanna know why you think you need such a setup and what it would do for you?
It's a bad idea.Dan

Awesome idea. I think 6 would be good. One on it's side at the bottom, then one up and down, then the top one on it's side. That's pretty much how Polk envisioned Lsi9s would be used when they created them.Stereo Rig: Hales Revelation 3, Musical Fidelity CD-Pre 24, Forte Model 3 amp, Lexicon RT-10 SACD, MMF-5 w/speedbox, Forte Model 2 Phono Pre, Cardas Crosslink, APC H15, URC MX-950, Lovan Stand
Bedroom: Samsung HPR-4252, Toshiba HD-A2, HK 3480, Signal Cable, AQ speaker cable, Totem Dreamcatchers, SVS PB10-NSD, URC MX-850 -
I don't understand why anybody would want to do this. If you like this type of setup get a pair of line arrays as that is what they are designed for.

As Face mentioned, this was already covered. To some up... the interference caused by multiple sources producing the same sound destroys imaging.
-
I think this is what I'm actually gonna end up with if/when one goes on sale within driving distance from Phoenix, AZ (hint hint to any Polkies looking to unload a nice pair).
-
People everywhere will tell you that stacking is not recommened. But I have heard some stacked Quad ESL's, Advents, JBL's and others that sounded pretty damn good stacked. Imaging was good, not perfect, but stacked speakers were intended to do one thing, ROCK! And they aways deliver. If you haven't heard it don't knock it. If you intend to rock out with those Lsi9's go for it. Get some good power and they will pound your chest with mid bass. Go for it!Carl

I hate to even post this after all the comments of how stupid it would be.
But I was kind of thinking about doing the same thing. I didn't want to stack them. I wanted to put them on stands side by side.
I thought maybe if you toed them in the opposite of each other you could get the imaging back. I don't have a clue if it would work and I am guessing not from all the responses.
But the nines just didn't rock out like I wanted. I want Hi fidelity and power(spl) all in one package. and so far the nines seem incapable of that. The fidelity is amazing. But not quite the power I was looking for.
I dunno but my amp may be holding them back at 250wpc.
When SolidSqual gets here Wednesday with his Emo amp I'll get to see the difference that double the power makes. I'm pretty sure the Emo XPA-2 is 500wpc. So it will be interesting to hear the difference.

I think once a person is not satisfied with their current speaker and considering stacking, making pyramids, or moding a perfectly fine speaker what they should do instead is get a totally different speaker further up the hifi food chain ... that is probably a better idea than spending another 800$ on another LSi9s. Rather sell your Lsi9s to me and spend the cost of a second set of LSi9s on a big **** floor stander that will blow your socks off.

Note that in the original question, I didn't say "like wow man, OMG I gotta stack these", I actually posed the question of A) what was the consensus on running multiple small speakers vs 1 set of big ones, and if consensus is not negative, then whether stacking was a good idea or if there would be a better way to arrange multiple speakers. I really have no idea as I haven't tried it. I do know many theater systems manage to sound pretty decent arranged in stacks.
My original thought was to try multiple smaller speakers complimented by a sub or subs, but I think that is probably a flawed idea. Seems there's no replacement for displacement when it comes down to it.
I did audition the 9's and found them nice sounding for small speakers (with maybe slightly overdone midrange), but definitely missing the bass (duh, I know they're bookshelf speakers). And with a sub added (it was a DSW Pro 600, the best they had in the room with the 9's), I just still could not get the overall smooth flow of sound I was looking for, even with probably an hour of trying to tweak it. They actually put out a pretty good volume level, but still sounded like small speakers with a big thumping sub added. It wasn't horrible by any means, but I want that smoothness of sound from those deep low sustained notes all the way up to the limits of my hearing, without feeling like there are any gaping holes or glaring excesses. And my 1C's do that admirably - however I want MORE of that sound.... which again, will probably lead me to SRS 1.2TL's when I can find a good pair for sale close enough to pick up, since I cannot seem to find anything remotely affordable that sounds even close to the vintage Polks to my ears. -

would the processer make a difference?
I have a pair of 7's, 9's, 25's and a c all firing from the front. everything runs through the receiver and is amped with seperates at 200wpc. I think if I had it to do over again I would go all 9's since I think that they sound the best.
room - 16x20 - the LSiC is set up to with the 9's with the prescence setting from the receiver in a triangle (all 6' apart with the C at the top above the tv). The 25's are spaced 12' apart L+R chanels and the 7's are toed way out so they fire down the walls for surround chanels.
not perfect and the crossover settings can be tricky, but this way everything fits on / around the entertainment center (waf) and I can still use the 25's in stereo.
also - if I turned the volume even half way up I hurt my ears and my friend who lives two blocks away cah hear every note. In 7 chanel stereo this set up would crush your ears.

If I were in the US I would be all over that but being your northly neighbor, Canada, cross border taxes, brokerage fees and shipping costs usually crap all over an even good deal so I may have to go local. But when and if the time comes I dont think you will have any problem selling a fine set of speakers as the 9's. Though I am not into the whole 2 channel world yet, it seems like the happiest 2 channel folks are those with huge monolithic towers rather than bookshelfs.
