This morning (Monday) at around 11:00am my 12 year old son who lives with his mother but stays with me on weekends found his mother dead in her bedroom from either a prescription drug overdose or asphyxiation. I was at work and got a call from him hysterical and scared out of his mind. It's been a long and horrible day for both of us but the worst part is that tomorrow (Tuesday) is his 13th birthday. He is with me now and and will live here from now on.We are both in shock. Please pray for my son. Thankyou.

Kelvin, I'm so sorry for you, your son and your ex-wife. Hopefully he'll get over this horrible turn of events. He's fortunate in one respect. He's still got his dad. Good luck.

Wow, man, so sorry to hear that. Can't imagine how traumatic that would be for the little guy. Can't imagine how traumatic it'd be for me now!

Prayers will definitely be sent for you, your son, and everyone else affected. As mentioned before, God works in mysterious ways and knows what He's doing, however hard it may be for us to see it.

Keep believing and strengthening your faith... that can be a great example for your son during this time and help him to develop a stronger faith, as well.

I'm so sorry. Even though you were not together...she was still your son's mother and someone you cared about (at some time during your life) and I know everyone is hurting. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your son.

    Excellent advice.

There's a saying, "There's strength in knowledge" but I think you can show your son strength right now by letting him know that answers to some of the questions he must have inside are: "I don't know".

And while you may not have all the answers, the answers to two of the most important questions ("Dad, do you love me ?", and "Dad, will you be there for me ?") are an unwavering, "Yes !".

Don't waste any time trying to figure out the "Why", just deal with the "What Is".

Prayers for you and your son.

Very good advice. The why part is the tormentor.
    Still in my prayers.

You people have truly touched my heart with your outpouring of prayers and wishes. I truly thank you all. John (my son) is doing ok all things considered. We went to the family doctor today and to a grief counselling session for traumatized children and we both felt a little better coming out. I was actually very good friends with his mother even though we had not been together as a couple for almost 10 years. We even played ball on the same mixed slo-pitch team. As I wrote earlier his birthday was today (Tuesday) and despite everything we had an ok time. I took him to his favorited restaurant (Denny's believe it or not) with a good family friend and her child and then went to a local kids fun place with arcade games and stuff. I told him we'll do a genuine real birthday celebration after things are settled a little. He was good with that. He's feeling a lot of anger that this happened on his 13th birthday but is expressing it well and not bottling it all up but not in rage either. The kid at times shows courage and strength far beyond his years and as the counsellers pointed out a very significant maturity for a boy his age. He had a very hard time going to sleep last night being terrified of choking in his sleep which was how he found his mom but did fall asleep in my bed by about 1:00am andwoke at almost 10:00 so he had a great sleep all things considered. He was already starting to point out some of the positives of living with me today and that's a great start. By the way he's a budding audiophile himself and can appreciate very good hifi over lofi mp3. I should be careful about that though because as many of us know this hobby can be addicting. Anyway I very sincerely thank you all again for the outpouring of support. Even though I've never met any of you I feel a real sense of community here on this forum and am proud to be a member of it. God bless you all.
