Oh and as far as living on Mars, two words, DOOM 3.
That is all.
Umm, that's one word and a number... sheesh...If...

Ron loves a film = don't even rent. -
Maybe we can bottle that water!
They didn't happen to find oil?
No, but they did find water and liquid ethane on Titan (Saturn's largest moon), which is a key component of crude oil.

If they find oil, gas prices would totally come down.

Could you imagine riding in the cockpit on an atmosphere re-entry burn with a cargo bay full of nothing but oil?.............yikes.........comment comment comment comment. bitchy.

Not to pick a fight, but the side benefits of space projects and explorations have led to advances in medicine, engineering, and other disciplines as well.
Being an engineer, I used to subscribe to the publication "NASA Tech Briefs" - the spinoffs have been positive for all that are earthbound.
Count me in the group that is all for pushing outwards.

Outwards has reached its logical limits. We would have to go far beyond what we consider logical/practical to benefit too much from further travel. The benefits you tout mostly were derived from the need for lighter, stronger, faster, better just to escape Earth.
Law of diminished returns apply to space travel too........and as with most things, privatization would bring more rewards at less cost. The rewards haven't really been great enough or business would have seen the clear advantages and the richest companies/people on Earth would be those in the space biz getting paid by those paying to leave Earth.HT Optoma HD25 LV on 80" DIY Screen, Anthem MRX 300 Receiver, Pioneer Elite BDP 51FD Polk CS350LS, Polk SDA1C, Polk FX300, Polk RT55, Dual EBS Adire Shiva 320watt tuned to 17hz, ICs-DIY Twisted Prs, Speaker-Raymond Cable

It's POS so that would be no great loss.
In fact, if NASA launched you into outer space.......that wouldn't be a bad idea either.I plan for the future. - F1Nut -
