I've got a sub driver that the magnet has separated from the basket. Is it toast, or can it be fixed?
In terms of audio, i truly feel sorry for the visually impaired. How can they know what they like if they cant read google?

    Hello,
I don't believe there is any way to, successfully, reattach a magnet to a woofer if it has become seperated. You would have to replace it.
    Regards, Ken

Aligning the magnet will be EXTREMELY difficult without reconing it as well.

Not worth it, even for a very expensive driver.

Yeah i know, but the guy is a respected speaker maker over here. He is going to pull it all apart and re-align everything for a measly $40, if it doesn't work he wont charge......

I figured the same thing, just buy a new one. I rang the local distributor for a replacement, $295NZD!!! I rang a relatively local speaker maker (well known), he'll completely recondition it for $80NZD.

These damn SRT's are costing me a fortune!!!! I still think they are worth every penny....

I'm awaiting an email from CS, will see how that goes. Fedex did a fine job alright and i didn't have much of a comeback. They were shipped domestic from Rochester NY to Miami, then boated to NZ.

I planned a complete sand and re-spray but all the other damage has caught me unawares, hence looking for the cheaper options.

I was going to say you have nothing to lose. I fixed a MW6503, but this magnet on your driver is a beast, but I would give it a go. Let us know how it works out.

Yeah i figured the same thing.... The driver is out of an SRT subwoofer 10in bass driver.

Its funny i dropped the driver yesterday to be repaired. We sat talking about audio and the repairer's history. He founded a botique company years ago, making and selling speakers but due to health problems gave it all away. It turns out he's patented a lot of glues and technologies within the speaker world. We chatted about so many things, including SDA. I requested he come for an audition of the SRT's sda ability, as he's never heard them in the flesh. He was on the verge of releasing a different take on the SDA technology before the health issues arose. I cant wait to pick his brain on this one, as he has schematics etc on how he was intending on doing it.........

To sad to hear that you have your lovely speakers TOAST , you cannot fix the magnet ever in that place untill you are strong enough to hold that for around 2 hours!!!!

Yes - you have to like put some real hard metal glue at a metal support that holds teh magnet and as well the steel that holds the diaphragm , keep it intacct untill the glue aint dry, but you see it is a challenging and hard job, dont do this and hurt your self.

I can't remember who it was but....someone on the Carver forum was able to re-glue the magnet on his sub successfully. Maybe if you do a search over there you could find the thread. If it doesn't work, you'll be no worse off than you are now,if it does, kuul!

Nevermind, I just noticed the "after pic" good deal !!!
