Yeah not necessarily my bag but the you tube video certainly piqued my interest. I'll seek this out a bit further.

I stumbled onto these guys about a year ago I think while browsing Itunes and bought The Heart of Everything and was almost immediately hooked. The Howling instantly shot up to about #3 on my alltime favorite song list and the chorus to the song has been my ringtone for damn near a year now.

I still like Nightwish with Tarja better but these guys are a close second. I love the symphonic metal scene that is coming about and especially the ones with GOOD chick singers. Thats why I dont care that much for the new Nightwish - the new singer sounds like Ashley Simpson.

How one's taste changes over the years is Amazing.
growing up, I would have hated all those bands which sound like the Indiana Jones soundtrack,
    Nightwish, Epica, within temptation etc....
Growing up I was a true metal head. bnads like those would sound soft, commercial and fake. pop.
Nowadays, they still sound like distortion enhanced pop bands to me,
but somewhere along the way I lost the need to pretend I'm all about "Hardcore" and "artistic integrity" ,
(or whatever other wannabe-term a scrawny, pimpled, pale teenager would use ..).
    What a relief ;)

guys who are into this music (like I am), should also check "The Gathering" and "Paradise Lost".
Also Lacuna coil (a little "tougher" sound ).

The more recent stuff of several of these bands (Within Temptation and Nightwish for sure) seems to be heading in the more mainstream direction - great for most people but not a trend I'm fond of.

I know both bands have been around alot longer than Evenescance, but their more recent stuff is sounding more like that. It's great because it attracts people that normally may not buy their stuff, as it's done in this thread - I just personally don't like that 'pop' sound, even if it's wrapped up in a metal package...

Nothing new really. Many heavier bands mellow with age. Sabbath as Ozzy got older (or more bewildered) became a shell of its original self. Current and recent Judas Priest isn't as heavy as it once was. Iced Earth is more symphonic/epic and less raw.

Listen to early Opeth and then compare with recent material. Gone are the death vocals, replaced with exclusively clean vocals. Many death metal bands, as they gain commercial success, realize that the growling vocal style does not translate well to non-hardcore fans. Tristania, The Sins of Thy Beloved, The Gathering, Samael... all moved away from their heavier origins.

So I bought this CD ----

The over-compression of the disc kind of ruined it for me really.

    Some cool songs though.

The CD is utter crap from a fidelity standpoint. I have no idea what they did to it.

The Blu-Ray, on the other hand.... is phenomenal.
