I looked at both brands before, I would by the Pioneer Elite, just personal preference. I used to like HK stuff but in the past few years I've liked other brands better. If you want the HK check out ubid.com or HK's website you may be able to save some cash on a refurbished unit. My Onkyo was bought as a refurbished unit and it works fine.

Did you listen to both? Which sounds better to you?

I've got the pioneer elite vsx-43 and love it. Sounds great with the polk speakers. :)

I have the H/K AVR-520 and I like it. Some may say that H/K have problems, but what receiver dosn't have a problems. I had Onkyo and had problems, I had Pioneer that had a problems, My sony had problems. And I know that I will have problems with the H/K but just remember no matter what you buy you could have problems, some more then others but still can be fixed.
