...so I took pictures. These speakers came from an SGI NT box. I don't know if Polk created them specifically for the SGI's or if they were Polk consumer models adapted for use with the SGI.
Here is the front:

Here is a closeup of the left speaker:
Here is a closeup of the right speaker:
Here is a close up of the connections:
Does anybody recognize this model? Polk probably doesn't make them anymore. I would have to find them used most likely but I'd like to know the model. These speakers are spectacular! They aren't very big. About 10 inches tall by 3 inches wide and no more than 6 inches deep but for thier size...well, the only thing I can think of for the depth of sound is that Bose Wave Radio thing only much much better. Very solid sound.
I'd keep these but my job would be in jeopardy if I did considering the nature of my work. I'd like a pair of my own though.

They do look like older models.HP come with Polk speakers, that might be one of the ones.SG huh.I'd ask Polk directly.
I'm all in the dark with model numbers for the computer....Dan
My personal quest is to save to world of bad audio, one thread at a time. -
I have a large pair of Polk Audio computer speakers. According to Ken Swauger, sage at Polk, these were prototypes manufactured for H-P, and never put into production. I really don't need them. They are right outside Mount Holly if you get the itch. $25/pair. They are collectors items. I said so.

Not that anyone cares but I did finally find these speakers without any other branding on them. I don't know any model numbers yet but so far I am only paying 10 dollars for them.
George, I work in Mt. Laurel/Moorestown area. Where in Mt. Holly are you? Do you have pictures of the speakers? I might be interested in them. You can email me at jrjr@snip.net if you like.Expert Moron Extraordinaire

Thats not all that standard,, 13.8, or 12 volt, 4.5 volt, 6 volt ok those are standard adapters... i'f these are proto types i would guess the power adapters were proto's also.. think you could find a 18.5 volt laying around??MY HT RIG:

You can find adapters at radio shack that are switchable to
3v up to 24v and have different types of input female and
male plugs too, also comes in all sizes. -
That's all well and good but I already have a set I recieved from another auction. They were NIB and had everything I needed.
That auction is also wrong. They aren't 6 watts, they are about 15 watts and the tweeter is only 1 inch. If you count the mounting flange, I suppose it is 2 inches.
They aren't prototypes either. They came with Silicon Graphics NT machines, which are now defunct and totally un-upgradeable. SGI doesn't support them at all. The only reason I know about them is because I have a set on my desk at work. They have to be probably the best sounding computer speakers I have heard yet. They are worth way more than 10 bucks. Those don't have power supplies though. Anyway, best deal. All I gotta do is find a subwoofer for them and they will be perfect!Expert Moron Extraordinaire
