OTC sleeping pills just ain't cutting it. I'm looking for something that will shut down my BRAIN, and my body.
It's getting frustrating, because my sleep clock is running later & later:(
If I need a script for something -FINE. I just want something that will get me back on track.
Thanks

If you need more than the standard OTC medication - I recommend discussing with your family doctor or local pharmacist.
If you need a movie recommendation since you are up anyway - just let me know though - that I may be qualified to help with.

That will work very well too. -
I like to use Nytol extra strength. That stuff knoocks me out within 1hr.
If you drink often, I doubt OTC sleeping pills will really help because the effects is similar to having a nice "sleepy buzz" from alcohol, but worth a try. -
go play racquetball for 3 hours with someone of the same skill level who also hates to lose.

Obieone, what time do you go to bed, and how much sleep are you looking for ?
Do you do any sort of off-shift work, or rotating shifts ?
How many hours of sleep are you wanting ? Some folks need 8+, others get by on 3 or 4.Sal Palooza -
Melatonin works for me most times...when I need a little extra I take some benedryl along with it. I work swing shifts all the time and I have to sleep when I can and when I need to sleep....I NEED TO SLEEP.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'll look into Melatonin. As far as working more, I'd LOVE to. That's probably a major part of the problem. I have a 4-7 hour comute, roundtrip, everyday, with only some light **** 3-4 hours of actual work. I think all the driving is keeping my brain reving in neutral when I get home.
I usually ween myself off the pills after a couple of nites, but last week, I ended up sleeping in til 7:30-NOT good
I'll probably have to see a phys. and get a recommendation to see a shrink to pinpoint exactly what I should take.I refuse to argue with idiots, because people can't tell the DIFFERENCE! -

Ambien... you will never need another sleeping aid.
I wouldn't recommend it.
Benedril works great though."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche -
If you can still find it in your area, Doan's PM worked REALLY well for me. Something with it's composition just seemed to click, I can't explain why it worked better than any of the other OTC pain relievers with sleep aid."SOME PEOPLE CALL ME MAURICE,

Lunesta-3 mg,,,Rx--do NOT bite or chew--nastiest taste in the world,, you'll sleep great, and wake up without that "drugged" hangover,,YMMV.JC approves....he told me so. (F-1 nut)
-
Yes, because you'll be making phone calls that you won't remember, sleep walking, and making meals in the middle of your sleep.
I wouldn't recommend it.
Benedril works great though.
Hehe.. Been there done that...... -
Thanks Face. I couldn't remember who/ what thread it was that said Ambien was a no-no
Lunesta I'll ask about as well.I refuse to argue with idiots, because people can't tell the DIFFERENCE! -

This the BEST. I have the 3mg script too. But he was asking for OTC.

OK,, if I was going OTC,, something with alot of Benadryl,,just be sure you don't take it too late,,or you'll pay for it in the AMJC approves....he told me so. (F-1 nut) -
NO NO! I DON'T want otc. They all have the same ingredient, Diphenhydramine HCL,
which I am building a tolerance to, and the morning grogginesss. They make my body relax, but my mind stays reving.
And no, I don't drink caffeine in the afternoon. It's probably this stupid economy.I refuse to argue with idiots, because people can't tell the DIFFERENCE! -
Rx--- Ambien,,Ambien CR,,or my preference--Lunesta 3mg,,when it kicks in--don't fight it,,hit the sack . Good luck.JC approves....he told me so. (F-1 nut)

Reading puts me to sleep. Have you tried getting a book? I'm out in like 20 minutes, tops.

After working for 4 years 7am to 7pm I have switched to nights 7pm to 7am and have had a very hard time sleeping during the day. I would sleep 3-4 hours, wake up and not be able to get back to sleep. Then I started taking sublingual melatonin and it works very well. I can sleep straight though 6-7 hours. A friend's father is a doctor and he said that the sublingual is the best way to take melatonin because it is absorbed better. Its cheap, but you will have to look for it because there is a lot of the regular type, not the sublingual. Rite aid has it. Good luck.
