Ok, so we just bought another house today. Moving in a month so I am not even trying to make this room look pretty. The new house has a huge finished basement perfect for these GIANT mother speakers. Anyway, these are shot with my not at all tiny Rocket 550 MKIIs. The SDAs simply dwarf them lol.

    Oh, I also got a Pioneer VSX-5000.

Forgive me, how do you hook these speakers up properly? He was using a gage of wire that I laughed at. I need to make something better. I have some 10 gage copper handy.

There is no I/C cable. I am not doing anything until I here from someone who knows these things. Don't worry, I am worn out from moving them.

10 Gauge will do nicely. You should be able to make your own IC. Someone here will be able to tell you how.

    Congrats!!!

If they are pin/blade, then you can just shove a piece of bare speaker wire in each pin hole. Or, put RCA jacks on the end of a speaker cable, and cut of the metal collar of the jack(ground), it will insert in the pin hole.

okay,, got to rat shack,,get a pair of rca's,,connect some speaker wire to them,, remove the outer collar and place them in the "hole",,, or you can just use speaker wire with the ends placed in the holes(tinned prefferablly),,IIRC the slot on the pin/blade was used to support the cable. Without the cable.you are not getting the true sda effect.

those are the "jumpers",,connect the red/black from your amp to the lower red/black of the speaker,,then with your homeade interconnect,,put on some music and let us know how it sounds,,BTW,,careful with the receiver volume,,have fun

    OFF TO RAT SHACK!!!

Btw, the pioneer vsx 5000 is a very strange receiver. looks like 100 wpc in stereo so I will take it easy for sure.

Keep an eye out for an inexpensive amp for these will ya'll? I will too.

My room is now 40% speaker lol.

The little thingie you are describing is what is called a jumper wire. (and yes, it is from the factory) You can connect the speaker wire to the top or bottom, it does not matter. If you want someone to tell you what to connect them to - connect to the bottom set... :)

If you ever decide to bi-wire or bi-amp, remove the jumper.

If you have one set of speaker wire with one red and one black speaker end, keep the jumpers in place and connect them to the bottom.

pounding bass, clean mids, highs? well, I will wait on that until I get a real setup driving these. Pretty sure I will upgrade these to the hilt.

Just bigger. The source for the Rockets is digital and much better so there is no way to make a fair comparison yet. However, I will put all of my $$ into building the SDA setup. When I move next month, there will be a large, dedicated room. I may not yet have proper amplification but at least there will be enough space.

I do believe that the rockets have better highs though again it is not fair to compare them yet.

    ummm.

Amps. I am having trouble seeing anything new worth buying until about $1500. Anything around $500 that will work ok? Even used, I do not see much on audiogon. Most of the issue is 4ohm capable so far. That and watts. Everything is 100 wpc! I need at least 250 wpc right?

you need new tweeters, the RDO-194, might as well start dishing the cash out now, no sense denying yourself just because of fundage, hell the Mrs. got a new house, no reason you should not have new tweeters, amps, pre, source, wire, extra tubes, a new listening chair, a smoking jacket and a tobacco pipe.

Enjoy your new home and God Bless you and family.

Ok, I guess I better chime in being that I have a pair of SRS II's in my main living room setup. :D I've upgraded the tweeters to the RD0-194's, used Solen caps and Mills resistors in the crossovers, upgraded the speaker terminals, refinished the top/bottom wood pieces as someone had painted them black (that's in another thread), etc.

The only thing I need to get off my **** and do is get some speaker wire to make the new IC connection between the speakers. I have the blade/blade connector and I have the XLR parts to do the changeover like Raife did. I even have the nice covering for the wire...I just need speaker wire! I also need to get some better quality speaker cable between them and the Carver TFM-55 amp running them. All I'm using right now is some leftover 14/2 wire that I used for wiring my 7 in-wall/in-ceiling speakers.

Enjoy those speakers. They are the best of all the worlds on the SDA line....not too big, not too small. Give them some breathing room and they are amazing.

    try anti-cable for wire.

I AM getting my own damn REAL audio room. Built new from the ground up in a finished BASSment lol.

Thanks for the suggestions. I will get a budget around $2k (including doing the room) at least but prolly more.
