New respect for Apple.

Whats up everyone??

Today started out very badly. I woke up late, had to rush around to make it to work on time and due to this(on own fault) I dropped well basically tossed my iphone. It hit the tiles and bounced, like slow motion I watch disaster happen. The phone's screen I thought was going to be cracked, it wasn't. The damn thing still worked. if my Razor or blackberry would have taken such a fall, there would be parts all over my kitchen floor. So I picked up my iphone and saw the screen was on and it seemed to work fine. Then I noticed the home button which is a hard button didn't work correctly. I called Apple and told them about what happened. They asked me to make a appointment to come in and have them take a look at it and repair it. I agreed and did.

At the Apple store, I met with a tech and he looked over my phone. He figured out what was wrong and made a choice for me, he decided to replace my phone instead of making me wait for a repair. He also activated the phone right on the spot.

The level of service , not to mention how good all of there products are, Apple to me is an example of how others should conduct business. Every time I walk in and out, I leave with a smile. I get the feeling of the people who work there actually care about you(me) and take the time to meet and in most cases exceed your needs as a customer.

On a side note, Apple is offering the new Iphone at 199.99. There is some cool new features and it's 1/2 the price. It's insane. Like the Ps3, it's worth a a lot more then the asking price. They could charge 599.99 like before and it's a value at that price.

Not that I wasn't before but every time I go there I know why I buy there products. It's not about what they cost compared to others, it's the level of service I get and the support that keeps me wanting to do business with them. But hey it doesn't hurt that there products in my opinion are the best at what they do. I don't pass that kind of judgement on anyting, they have earned my respect and my business.

    Was it a refurb?

Yes they had replacements in stock and it's brand new. If it's refurb , I can't tell . There is no scratches on it like it was used not to mention it was wrapped in the factory plastic and in a sealed box.

I just sync d it up with my Imac and it restored the phone exactly like my orignal. I did nothing. Everything is there including text messages conversations that I had. thats bad ****.

Glad to hear it all worked out. I just bought a new MacBook Pro. Somehow I scratched the body within first 30 days of owning. I was bummed. I called up apple to see if there was someway it could be buffed or something. They said sure . . . I left with a new computer MINTY and loaded with everything I had done and all my settings from the last 30 days. Apple rules!

Good to know there's a reason their stuff costs so much.

I'm not a huge fan of their PCs and the iPhone isn't my cup of tea, but both iPods I've owned have been flawless, and have certainly taken some abuse from a clutz like me.

The extra bucks is worth the better quality parts and customer service.

You know it's harder and harder to find quality. Pride and Integrity is also something hard to find. When you come across it, you wanna be apart of it.

I like Apple for a lot of different but same reasons. Price isn't a concern when I buy anything from Apple. There stuff comes with a price as anything with quality and a team to back the product up. i'm very willing to pay there asking prices. They earned the right to ask it.

Glad you like it, it's always nice to find a company who at least tries to serve their customers. I'm not an Apple guy, just don't own any products in a category for which they make something I'd want, but it's good to hear other people take the time to give a company praise when they do something right instead of just bitching when they mess something up.

Where? Since Apple is offering it, must be without any service requirements (and unlocked of course) I might get a few and sell to friends overseas. Unlocked iPhones w/o service are about $600 euros.

They need to be activated in the store. No longer can you activate at home since it was so highly abused on the last one.

If they need to be activated, then the price is not the real price from Apple.

Right, AT&T is offering the iPhone for 200 bucks. That's a highly subsidized rate. A standalone iPhone WOULD probably be about 600 bucks, but it isn't offered without a contract.

Also, over a two-year contract, the 3G iPhone isn't any cheaper than the first iPhone, despite the 200 dollar savings up front - the 3G service and other fees make it actually slightly MORE expensive. If you like it and it's worth it to you that's great, just saying. Not really cheaper.

I'm glad to hear someone has had good CS from Apple. I'll be replacing the hard drive in my wife's 1 1/2 year old 30GB ipod. (6 mos. out of warranty)

I understand that things happen, but the failure started right after updating the unit. Strange errors, it wouldn't sync. An exhaustive search on the interwebs revealed lots, and lots of folks with the same issues, and all after downloading and installing the update. Until the update, the unit was flawless. It all might be a strange coincidence, but makes me wonder....

The documents on Apple's web site were of no avail. CS offered a solution, pay $160, or buy a new ipod. That doesn't fly. I'll have a hard time justifying another purchase from them.

Apologies for the hijack, needed to vent.:o

the company i work for bought 2 ipod shuffles as giveaways and sadly they were stolen from my office and sold on ebay. i called applecare to ask them what i could do. they asked to see the auction page to verify they were stolen and then overnighted me 2 brand new ones...no charge..

i also have a friend of mine that stepped on his ipod video over 2 months after the warranty ran out and they sent him a brand new current gen ipod.

    thats service

I had the same issues with a client's ipod. I found an older ipod update and it worked perfectly. The latest 2 updates did not work with the ipod even though apple said they would.

I'll have to keep an eye on that. I own 2 ipods and connect them about once a week or when I load more music/make a playlist change. I have a Nano and a classic. So far no problems. My Nano is older 2g model. It has served me very well and took many falls. I use it to ride when I'm alone on the trails.

Do you have a need for the proprietary software from Apple? If not, save a lot of money by switching to...not Keiko, but Linux. CentOS, OpenSuSe, Fedora etc. are all good distros which are easy to install and come with a lot of software (and the rest you can easily install). Don't worry, you don't need to be a geek to use or even install Linux, it's just a few mouse clicks.

Not to start an OS debate again, just trying to save you money (a lot of it). Of course Macs have some really good software you can't get in Linux (but can still get free alternatives) so if those are your reason then disregard the advice.
