How to add an non-factory amp to my sub?

I have a polk psw1200 that has a non-functional amplifier. It'd cost 330 to have my old one replaced. I don't want to spend 330 on an amp. With that money, I could get a new powered sub if I spend a little more. I don't want my psw1200 sitting at home doing nothing either. Anyone has put a different brand amp to his old polk sub before? Any recommendations on what to get and how to do it?

These plate amplifiers are pretty popular and might be plug and play, but you might have to take measurement to make sure.

The other option I would look at is disconnecting the amp from the driver, and wire the driver into a new set of binding posts added to the cab. Then you could use any external amplifier that you wanted, and would only need to drill two holes for the posts.
